Even water is going straight through me. In the night my bp dropped & I fainted on the way back from the loo.

Do I take Imodium? If it's an infection won't that just keep it in me for longer & make it worse?.

Dh is going to do me a sugar/salt drink soon.

Minimal cramps, no fever. Hearts a bit fast.

I literally don't know what to do & I'm exhausted. I worked in a residential home Thursday but none of them were showing signs of being ill.

I would absolutely call 111 in your case. You may need a drip!

Oh bugger.

Surely there can't be much left to come out now?.

That's how you'll become dehydrated as your body will push every last bit out. How are you feeling?

Dioralyte is amazing, definitely start taking that as often as you are allowed.

Keep going with the water, I don't think you need to call 111, when I had sickness and diarrhea and thought I was dying and called after 5 days they told me to wait until 7 as most things have gone by then.

whiteskyblueclouds · 05/08/2017 10:07

I'd try dioralyte and drinking as many glasses of water as you can manage.

Even if it still goes straight through you, your body will take in tiny bits.

I wouldn't have Imodium, you need whatever it is to leave your body. You might stop needing the toilet but you could end up with horrendous cramps and hanging on to virus longer. As horrid as it is, just let us run its course.

I wouldn't go to hospital unless I physically couldn't manage anymore. Only because there's no place I'd rather be when poorly than in my own bed and bathroom.

Hope you get better soon Flowers

Hope you're doing ok Fuffycloud and that you have taken some medical advice. You mentioned that you worked in a residential home, is there any possibility that you could be suffering from colostrum difficile (C diff)? If there is the slightest possibility of this you need to seek advice and treatment. Wishing you all the best.

Pannalash · 05/08/2017 16:47

Sorry Bl**dy phone autocorrected. Should be Clostridium Difficile.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2017 17:11

I've been sleeping, took generic Imodium and haven't been affected since.

I know I should let it all out but I was genuinely feeling drained after just 24hrs, I'd have felt like I was dying after 5 too Handmaid.

Just feel tired. Hip & shoulder giving me pain from the fainting.

How are you feeling today?

I had an IBS flare up last week and it left me so tired. Good excuse to stay in bed and give my husband lots of orders Grin

Have a nice rest of the weekend x

LIZS · 06/08/2017 08:49

Imodium may stop the immediate problem but if there is an infection you may find symptoms return.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/08/2017 09:03

Feel awful still, no more Imodium now I'm just going to let it run its course.

Thank you for asking.

I'm never ill. In the last three weeks I've had a period that left me feeling drained, a chest infection & now this.

Hi Fluffycloudland77,

Sorry you feel so poorly.

You should definitely phone the NHS111 service if you are still experiencing these symptoms now as not to keep any liquids down is an indication in itself that you are quite poorly and may require a drip if dehydration occurs and investigations as to what is actually wrong.

I know a lot of norovirus is going around and the shigella virus which both have severe sickness and diarrhoea symptoms; if it is either of these, the patient is suddenly sick with no prior symptoms and lasts within 1-2 days; whereas with food poisoning the symptoms develop some days prior to the sickness. Neither of these viruses have a cure and just has to be left to get better by itself. However I have researched it recently after some family members have been struck down by it and if no liquids/food can be kept down it is then important to seek medical attention as it could be an indication that it is actually something else wrong.

Take care and I'm thinking about you. Please keep us updated

Feline99 · 08/08/2017 12:19

Some experts say the shigella virus can even last up to 5 days and with either of these viruses; the patient should stay indoors for 48 hours after their last symptom, to avoid spreading the bug on to anyone else. Please contact NHS111 if you still can't keep any food and drink down or if you sick up any blood

Blossom4538 · 09/08/2017 20:32

I had something like this very recently and it was Norovirus! We had vomiting too (DD and I)

Small sips of water or I actually had sips of lemonade at times - not ideal but I could stomach it. Rest if you can. Diarolyte if you can keep it down....!

Feel for you.

niccyb · 10/08/2017 23:23

I would not call 111and u don't need a drip. It is only 24 hours and should settle down. Don't take Imodium, get the big out of your system. Keep taking water as this will keep you hydrated and diorylite. Your body will absorb some of the fluids. It always does.
This is part of the reason a&e is overcrowded because people are quick to assume they need a&e after a few hours.
Should it persist and after 3 days there is not an improvement or you deteriorate, then go to a&e.
