Just that really. I will be booking in with the GP to get it looked at but just wondered what mumsnetters think

(Excuse dirty fingernails)

I think you are wise to get this looked at by your GP.

Doctors advise using the ABCDE method to make things simpler.
Check your skin for these signs during self-examinations:

· Asymmetrical– the mole is distinctly asymmetrical
· Border– the mole has uneven borders
· Colours– the mole contains at least two distinct colors
· Diameter– the mole is bigger than ¼ inch or 6 mm across
· Enlargement– the mole grows in size over time

@AttilaTheMeerkat
Literally have come back from the doctors. Measures 7mm and raises a little concern so been referred to a skin specialist

TooLow don't worry too much about being referred. Our GP refers any he isn't totally happy with. I've been referred twice now, and both times has been declared "totalus normalus" by the specialist (who has a good sense of humour!)

TooLow · 04/08/2017 15:49

@Witchend
She did say she thinks it's ok but just referred me to be safe than sorry really

That's what my GP did too. While I was there (both times) the specialist asked if there were any others I was concerned about, so do be ready to take the opportunity to ask.

DH was referred for a mole like that, and it was fine. His was itchy and growing bigger, so he was quite worried. Turned out to be nothing. Try not to stress.

TooLow · 04/08/2017 16:02

It's always better to get checked out for peace of mind at least. I've had 3 moles removed in my lifetime (all of which have been fine and nothing concerning) this just happens to be one which is had removed and it grew back. It started growing back not too long after it was removed 9 years ago but only recently it's kind of changed so thought I'd better get it looked at

Very sensible. I have been with ne on the side of my face today. It felt like it had an itchy spot under it last week. DH said it had a dark bit in the middle. Saw the gp who is the skin one and he looked at it with magnifying glass and measured it. Said it was fine, no concerns at all, could not see any dark bit and now nor can DH (!) - had just had a spot under it.

TooLow · 04/08/2017 21:25

@LuluJakey1 can never be too careful with stuff like that

Pleased you have been referred. It took my Dr two years to refer me. I went repeatedly about a growth on my face, eventually they referred me and lo and behold it was a basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer).
It is all gone now and I have the scar to prove it.
Hope it is all ok for you :)

TooLow · 04/08/2017 21:55

@Maidofastolat30744 thats terrible, sometimes you have to be so pushy with doctors in order to get taken seriously. Glad all is well with you now though

Boots now do a mole checking service I believe (I heard it on a Spotify advert) x

ArgyMargy · 04/08/2017 22:13

I think that ABCD thing is rubbish. I've got loads of moles and virtually all of them tick at least one of those boxes.

ArgyMargy · 04/08/2017 22:14

Apart from the E! If any of them were growing, THEN I'd start to worry.

Ellapaella · 06/08/2017 11:47

Argy I agree with you a little - I have a few 'atypical' moles that all meet at least one of the criteria, I did however have a completely benign looking lesion that appeared on my chest during pregnancy, it just looked like a little pearly lump, didn't look sinister in anyway and after insisting on being referred it was biopsied and turned out to be pre-cancerous.
So I think it's wise to get any skin lesion that is new or that has changed checked out regardless of the ABCDE rules.
