her repeat came back clear this time but whilst talking to a doctor about her, he asked if she'd ever had an infection before and when i said she had he decided to arrange a scan. is this a precautionary measure that all practises do now?

Blimey-I would count yourself very lucky.
Have a friend who's dd has had at least 6 infections and nothing has been done.

Will be great to assure you there isn't an underlying issue.

Oh,right!
i got the impression that it's something they always do unless he thought there was something that needed looking at. however, i did question him again when he mentioned the scan and he did say it was "just precautionary". where does your friend live? we're in north-wales.

It's standard round here (SE London), in case the infections have scarred her urethra. It's very straightforward. DD2 quite enjoyed it.

Yes, my dd1 had a scan and other tests after one confirmed (but many suspected) UTI.

They are checking there is no kidney scarring which can cause long term problems if not picked up.

It wasn't traumatic at all, apart from the sight of the sparkly barbie which dd1 was given for visiting the hospital in the week before christmas.

its a precaution thingy....just incase there is an under-lying reason as to why infectons are happening..sometimes they happen for no reason other times it can be because of kidney reflux.....or alike.....if this goes untreated it can cause scarring of the kidneys whcih can cause probs later in life. So it will be to rule out anything like that happening. My eldest son has infections and his kidneys are scarred..later we found out of a hereditory condition some of my boys have and that was why it happened to Callum.

It's great to hear that your doctor is doing a thorough check for you.I am sure everything will be fine.#

She is in Herts-it's very interesting though to read why the scans are done. Will pass her the info so she is well armed if it happens again.

thankyou all for putting my mind at rest a little. my mum says i should be happy that they're looking. it's just that i always panic when doctors want to take things further.i'm glad it's not a case of being ignored though aswell. ooh...i'm sure you all know what i'm getting at being mums yourselves...!

It's definitely routine. My dd has had one confirmed UTI and she had a scan a month or so later. It only takes a few minutes and they told us then and there that it was clear.
