Hi All,

First time posting longtime watcher lol,

I have recently had a very bad couples of weeks. During which I caused an injury accidentally by dropping my phone and smashing my ribs in to sofa. It's looking like this as caused gallstones to flare up and I may need surgery, however currently awaiting scan. Please tell me that the Surgery will be longer than 11 weeks (if needed) as I have been on count down for this family holiday for last 2 plus years. Sorry for the long post.

Confused

Ime it would be unusual to get listed for surgery as first treatment. You should declare the investigation to your insurer though, in case of an attack.

You might find it hard to get insurance -pre-existing condition. If you don't declare it, then your insurance would be invalid, and any resulting medical bills would be down to you. Not sure I'd want to risk US without valid insurance.

Thank you guys for the reply. I will definitely declare on my travel insurance.

If you can get it removed really soon go for it. The recovery from the surgery is easy and you would be fine in time for Florida.

Had my gallbladder removed yesterday and feel like I've been kicked by a mule so would hardly say it's easy! I've been signed off for 4 wks and was told pre-op I wouldn't be able to fly for a month or drive for 2-3 weeks and that's laproscopic.

If you've been referred for surgery then it'll be closer to 12 weeks before you get an appt as you'll have a pre-op a month or so beforehand and can tell them when you fly. You can then ask to put it back for a week or two (i did as was on holiday the first date they suggested).

definitely tell your insurer though as could null and void your travel insurance as its a pre-existing condition that you're awaiting surgery for. Might mean taking out additional insurance / separate policy but would be worth it if anything were to happen.

The op is pretty straightforward but you will be tender and, if you're like me, have pain in your shoulders / neck from the CO2 they use to inflate the area. You'll be on heavy duty medication (co-codamol and ibuprofen max strength) and have to wear those compression socks so, if it were me and I wasn't in constant pain or it's an emergency then I'd go on holiday first and enjoy the rides / food etc and then have the op when you get back.

Good luck though!

If you've not had a scan yet then it definitely won't be within the 11wks for surgery. Had my scan back in April and that's me just had the surgery. Waiting lists only start when the consultant acknowledges the letter and it can sit in their in-tray for over a month (I had to chase my referral several times as hadn't heard back).
