Bad nappy rash...again

My dearest daughter Beth had a bad case of nappy rash about 4-5 months ago now. It lasted for ages but eventually cleared up with the help of some Timodene.
Over the last couple of days I've noticed it getting worse again, particularly in a few patches. The patches are bright red and one of them seems to be weeping a bit. I've tried my usual methods of clearing it up (sudocrem, metanium, timodene) but it seems to be getting worse and I'm worried it could be bacterial or that I may have managed to pass on my cold sore virus to her somehow. We've also been suffering from colds over the last couple of days so we're all under the weather anyway. She gets extremely distressed when I'm changing her nappy as it looks ever so sore, I'm starting to feel absolutely awful as I don't know what it is. I'm going to give my Health visitor a ring tomorrow and try leaving the nappy off for the morning to see if it makes a difference.
Any reassurance would be much appreciated as I'm feeling really guilty and upset about it!
Thanks,
Lucy

I don't think you have anything to feel guilty about, but I know how you feel: my dd has had a couple Sometimes I get the feeling that leaving off the cream actually helps, especially after some nappy free time, as that seems to help everything to dry up a bit. Commercial baby wipes also seem to aggravate things: I use a soft cloth (a piece of fleece is brilliant) with water and gentle soap if necessary. Also have you changed your brand of washing powder or your little bath products recently? That could cause a reaction. Anyway, sending you a big hug and sympathy.

oops. some of my typing has disappeared. I meant to say dd has had a couple of bad bouts of nappy rash, and I feel dreadful, especially if she cries when I change her nappy.

I find that sudocreme seems to really sting if she has weepy sore spots; metanium and bepanthen seem to be less irritating to her.

we had this trouble the other week.i used only homemade wipes and water, dried him properly with another square of cloth and lots of nappy off time.i brought some silk liners but it cleared before i got to use them.dont feel guilty, not your fault, its unfortunatly just one of those things!

I know I probably shouldn't feel guilty, it's just seeing her in pain makes me feel so awful!
I've been digging up some old nappy rash threads and I'm going to try a few things I've read there. I've already got silk liners in but I've drunk all the chamomile tea!
Thankyou for the hug!

Hi there

My dd is 8 months and she's had similar weeping nappyrash since two weeks old, tried everything! and just thought i'd give one more thing a try and it worked! no nappy rash at all in just 4 days!

Its the Weleda Calendula nappy cream! try it!!!

dandycandyjellybean · 27/03/2007 21:16

my neighbour recommended a cream called conotrane to me, and it worked miracles with my ds' n/rash. I found that sudacrem and the like were too much like barrier creams, and although they kept out the moisture they also prevented air getting to the sores. this cream worked like a dream. had to ask at the pharmacy desk of my chemist, but a tube only cost about one fifty. hth.

Thankyou for the suggestions! It looks much better this morning and I feel like such a doofus for having such a stress last night.
I will be adding Weleda and conotrane to my shopping list as dd is really prone to it. Sensitive skin runs in the family.
