Well, I have the Implanon Implant (contraceptive Implant). In many ways it's fab. I have had it since October 2005 ( so about 1 1/2 years now)but was never one of those lucky women that stopped bleeding on it....well, normal bleeding would be fine...however, generally I have a period every other week, I had about 2 5-6 weeks stints where I didn't have a bleed...but other then that, no word of a lie, I was lucky if I was one week on 2 weeks off.
Well, I am, tbh, ready to have that thing taken out and broached the subject with my GP yesterday.
He suggested that in some women a 3-6 month course of a combined pill (on top of the Implanon) sorts the bleeding pattern out.
Now, I am 37 this year and am a bit worried that a combined pill on top of a "minipill" (which the iMplanon is in effect)might not be the greatest of plans...and tbh, well, i decided on the Implant because I didn't want to take the Pill, like, I assume, most women that would go for the Implant.
Now, should I just put up wiht the bleeding, which isn't painfaul, just a bit of a faff, or should I try the "doubledosing" or should I jsut have it taken out and go on the pill, until my cowardly dh takes himself down for that Vasectomy he said he would have?
The Irnoy of this whole thing is, that, if I do go on the pill, I would be double protected, and I ain't even gonna have any sex for a while, as dh is in Afghanistant for 6 month...!
Anywyas, anyone else GP suggested that course of action...and what did you do? Or what would you do if you were in my shoes?

How reliable are you in taking the pill? My thoughts are that if you are going to have to take the pill anyway (and there is no danger of getting pregnant over the next 6 months ) then I'd have the implanon taken out. Although it's only a low dose, it's not ideal taking 2 doses of something.

And I'm with you on waiting for dh to have a vasectomy - currently trying to pursuade mine but not with much success.

I am reasonable reliable at taking the pill, and must say, that I have never fallen pg whilest using contraception (even if it was just the withdrawel method)...

I was thinking about this implant thing... won't bother now. This is the third bad story i've heard this week

3easterbunniesandnomore · 27/03/2007 20:54

oh no moon...thing is, until I had it put in all the experiences that I had heard of were positive...only once I started having teh bleeding and mentioned it on boards, etc...people started telling me they had the same thing happening!

Lilyloo....must say, other then the bleeding, the Implant does seem to have had a good effect, i.e. not quite as moodswingy and easily depressed as normal, lol ...obviosuly not completely free of it neither...I mean, can't expect miracles, eh! No weightgain, etc....!
Did you friend say if it is very unpleasant to have it taken out...I mean, I know eventually I have to face that anyway, so, probably won't make a difference in the long term...just would liek to know what to expect, I suppose...!
