Stubbed my toe on the hoover and now it's gone very blue and swollen. I was planning to spend tomorrow buying fit flops and getting stuff done before plane flight in the early morning, but having perused internet it seems my best bet is rest, ice, toe-strapping and elevation for the next few days. I'm not sure I have time to go to A & E if all they're likely to do is strap it to the next toe. No shops open here till 12 on Sundays, so I will have to go into the metropolis for a Boots to get dressings, and find wide shoes or trainers for the hols, as it seems flip flops are bad. I would prefer something cool, as I'm travelling to a country experiencing a massive heatwave. Does anyone find crocs sturdy and protective, as I've never worn them?

Obviously my toe will be elevated - at several thousand feet - but not quite as the doctors would advise. I'll basically be travelling for 11-12 hours in the worst possible conditions for broken toe healing. Is there anything else I could do?

If it's your small toe, you'll be absolutely fine. Any others though, I'd be inclined to go to a walk in centre to get some advice just in case it's done more damage than you realise. Although I was cleared by a doctor, I had a sprained ankle once, flew home and there was horrendous pain and swelling which was more painful than the actual injury even though it was at healing stage and this was only a 3 hour journey! No amount of aspirin nor water helped. Your toe has the potential to swell and could be a blood clot risk.
