Constant ache

Good morning, this is a petty thing but every morning for the last week I have woken up with back ache from my kidney area down. There's nothing I can do to fix it and it's slowly getting worse. It's at the stage where I can't ignore it now because it's starting to stop me doing things. I also don't know what causes it. Maybe things like carrying my son around (he's 2.5yrs so almost 20lb!). I thought it might be the bed because it's worse on a morning but it's only been the last week and my lb/dh/dsis have never complained about it and all three of them have slept in it over the last couple of years. I'm a teacher so haven't been lifting anything for a week or on my feet all day.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it or prevent it? I can't take ibuprofen I found out as it's giving me awful heartburn. Also we don't have a bath so that's out of the question too.

Not petty at all especially if you are caring for a little one. Paracetamol? Co-codamol (latter for only 3 days as, although available over the counter, dependency can develop - use until you can see a doctor?). If recommended, to save waiting for the NHS, could you afford a private physio? If you don't know what's causing the ache it is impossible to find stretches or whatever to help without making it worse.

@Fadingmemory thank you. I'm currently about to move into my own house so can't really afford a private physiotherapist yet. I did try going to my gp but he gave me a prescription for ranatadine (sp) and said I need to stretch before doing any lifting or carrying; you can obviously always do this when your toddler wants lifting! "Of course I'll pick you up son! Let mummy just warm up first"

I'm going to see if I can use the heat/cold/hot/cold method for a bit till things settle down financially (I now have a two month wait till I get paid because I've been on supply and don't get pay in august).

I had a bad neck for a while and a visit to the physio fixed it in a couple of days with 3 exercises I had to do twice a day. I was so surprised.

If you can't afford it then I'd look up some general back stretches you could do to see if it helps.

My physio said that sometimes it's not one sudden thing that causes a pulled muscle or tightness, it can be built up strain then one day it's just too much.
