Top tips for getting rid of children's warts please! Homeopathy worked like a dream on my younger son, but has failed to make any impact on the 10 year old and I don't want to fork out any more money on it. Advice gratefully received.

How many warts?

Chattea · 29/03/2007 14:11

About four, but they're big and well established. (I am steinermum by the way)

Sorry - this is like an inquisition - but where are they? The treatment depends where they are, as medical tretments can be quite harsh. The reason I asked how many is because multiple warts can often be a sign of a weakened or poorly functioning immune system and can clear up on their own once the immune system is working again.

I think for 4 large established warts I would seek the advice of a dermatologist via GP TBH. You can buy over the counter stuff to burn or freeze them - but that would be painful with so many I think.

I have to go out now, but will check back later.

Thank you - they're on his hands. It's funny, I so very rarely go to the GP that I forget that's an option!

I know - I never go to GP if I can possibly help it - haven't got time. It is always a hassle to get through on the phone, then get an appointment etc etc. However, it might be worthwhile in this case.

My dd is now nearly 14 and developed warts on her fingers in year 3 (age 7). W tried everything to no avail. Then last time we went to see a different GP who is a dermatology specialist and he said when she's in the bath and her skin has gone all prune like, using a pumice stone, rub over the warts. Then, after the bath (about an hour later) when completely dry, apply clear nail varnish. I was somewhat peeved and very sceptical, but it's working. Her warts were very large and they are nearly all gone now. Try it, you've nothing to lose.

DD2 had several on her knees, and both girls had verruccas. I tried everything, over the course of a year, and nothing worked. So I just left them and eventually disappeared, which would tie-in with your weak immune system theory, froggy. And thinking about it, DD2 probably is much healthier than she used to be!
