Middle of the night worrying...
I was out in the garden at 8ish tonight came back in, watched tv etc. went up to bed at 1030 and noticed my upper arm muscles felt sore like I'd done some heavy lifting. Thought ah must be due to my whooping cough injection I had this afternoon. While getting ready I glanced at WC injection plaster and noticed a weird little scab next to it (pin head sized). I pulled the scab off and it was a tick!! 😱 It was writhing its legs. Showed husband then quickly squashed and flushed it!

I Applied TCP and princess plaster but arm is getting stiffer now in my elbow and shoulder. There is a small lump at the site of bite but it's not red. I think I'm a little hot but don't think I have a temp.

Has anyone else had this stiffness after a bite? I'm just concerned given 34 weeks pg that some damaging infection might affect baby. I know the likelihood of Lymes is low but I'm almost more worried about there being some other ill effects. Will go to GP tomorrow but rather fretting about them just dismissing me and then something going wrong further down the line...

Just to add I'm certain the stiffness isn't from the WC injection as there was no stiffness all day until tick bite and the tick lump hurst when pressed and increases the joint pain whereas the site of injection is totally painless.

I would say your arm is sore from your injection. It's an achey one the whooping cough one. Any other symptoms of feeling flu-like or achey are highly likely to be the vaccination.
If you were somehow in the vast minority who contracted lyme disease you wouldn't have any of these symptoms yet. IT IS HIGHLY IMPROBABLE YOU WILL GET LYME DISEASE.

The most important thing is: did ypu remove the tick head? Or just yank the body out?

I agree that it's highly unlikely i will get Lymes but am certain it's not the WC that's caused the ache. And am more concerned about side effects of head being left in and fact they can carry other diseases.

Had I realised it was a tick I would have used the remover I have for the dog!! but it was so small I thought it was just some weird scab or bug so yanked it off with my finger nails. I don't know if seeing wiggling legs mean I got the head or not!!

The head might still be stuck. Just get the doctor to have a dig around - mark the spot with something in case the swelling goes down overnight so you know where it was. No use digging about in the wrong spot!

Thanks Ginger

If anyone else has had same symptoms would be great to hear what the outcome was...

I've never had a tick bite but did have all the symptoms you describe after having the whooping cough vaccine while pregnant... my arm ached for ages (not immediately tho) and I felt really poorly and flu like for a day or two afterwards. I think it is much more likely that it is the vaccine causing the symptoms not the tick....

Thanks IncyWincy that's a big help. I guess I should probably visit dr with a tick bite at 34 weeks though to be safe... Maybe I'll call midwife instead see what they say/saves dr rigmarole!

It definitely wouldn't hurt to ring the midwives and ask if they want to check you in anyway, probably what I would do... but I really don't think you need to worry... hope you feel better soon!

If you had the tick you could get it tested for lymes...

HamletsSister · 26/07/2017 00:25

Live in a place full of ticks. When the kids were younger I probably dug 2-3 a week out of them. The target rash suggests Lymes but otherwise it is no more dangerous than a mosquito or flea bite.
