Light bleed after norethisterone to delay period

Hi, I'm getting married in just under 2 weeks and I took Norethisterone to delay my last period so I'd not be on my next period on my wedding day. I hope that makes sense. I didn't want to risk taking tablets during my wedding in case of side effects so I used it the cycle prior to my wedding to delay my cycle.

Last period was successfully delayed and I started bleeding 2 days ago so all seemed fine and my next period is not due now until well after my wedding.

I'm worried though as my current bleeding is incredibly light! My periods are normally very heavy. Anyone else experienced this? Is there any chance my period could still come on my wedding day? Is it normal to have a light bleed/period after norethisterone? Any idea why?

Thanks in advance.

No exoerience but interested to read as I want to delay my period for my wedding too. Let us know how it works out.

I don't think you can guarantee no period by stopping Norethisterone early.
The action of Norethisterone is that is stops the womb lining from thickening while you take it. Once you stop, the lining breaks down=period.

Your lighter period would be a result of the action of the Norethisterone on the lining. If you want to be certain your normal period doesn't resume its normal cycle and coincide with your wedding, you should take Norethisterone right over the wedding dates. In other words, delaying a previous cycle doesn't guarantee your body won't catch up because the drug doesn't stop ovulation.

Thanks for replies.

Unikorn - I'll post and let you know.

That makes sense PollyPerky. As I have a variable luteal phase which can sometimes be quite short I started taking the norethisterone on day 8 or 9 dpo. So that would make sense in terms of the womb lining not having built up very much. Thank you!

I understand what you're saying that only way to be sure is to take the N at the time of the wedding - Unfortunately I can't risk taking norethisterone around my wedding as I struggle with hormonal meds (severe pms symptoms) so definitely couldn't have that on my wedding day as I'd be a hormonal wreck! Hence delaying the earlier period.

I have had no symptoms of ovulation yet (I get v obvious o pain) and I do 'feel' as if Im at the start of my cycle in other ways, so I'm pretty hopeful I will ovulate in 10 days or so - and therefore not have another period until well after the wedding.
I will post and let you know how I get on.

Unikorn - Hope all goes well for your big day!

Did you get PMS symptoms the last time you took it? if not, it's unlikely it would strike again.

Polly - yes unfortunately - severe symptoms!

Just wanted to update. My period did stay away for a full cycle after the post norethisterone bleed. The post norethisterone bleed was therefore the start of a new cycle for me. So the plan of delaying the earlier period worked and I had no bleeding over the wedding. Smile
