DD has come out in a pinkish, flat rash of small splodgey spots, not raised, not blistered...on her torso, tummy and around her fanjo...

she is 20 months, has had all her immunisations, has been a bit unwell over the last few days, high temp thursday afternoon, friday , and very clingy and upset.....

seemed to be a bit better yesterday and today

rash has appeared sometime between going down for a nap at 12 and getting ready for her bath at 5.00...

any thoughts x TIA

DS2 had something similar last week, doctor said it was a 'virus' that was going round. A few doses of Calpol later and he was fine, rash disappeared the next day.
Could be something similar?
I hope she's feeling better soon.

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:29

thanks very much, you cannot get measles when you have been immunised???? or can you??

Erm, I did! Was quite ill with it a few years ago even though I had the jab at school. I was really worried cos DS2 had his MMR only the week before, but he was fine. If it's measles you should know though! It's horrible! VERY high temp, non-blanching rash, sensitivity to light... if not then she should be ok!

a friend of mine baby has something like this diagnosed today with slapped cheek syndrome

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:37

when was she immunised lulumama? sounds like a viral infection, dd had something similar last month.

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:37

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:38

franca, she had her last immunisation when she was 13 months, she had her MMR and then the pneumococcyl a couple of months after IIRC..it is all in her red book......

slapped chicks is another viral infection

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:39

right, cause sometimes they can get a mild form of measles after 2-3 weeks from immunization

glassslipper · 26/03/2007 17:40

my dd had something similar recently. Dr said it looked like rubella. she had had the mmr.

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:41

aaah..well it cannot be that then, so probably viral..if it was slapped cheek, would it not be on her face?

OP posts:
sniff · 26/03/2007 17:41

common contagious bit of cold like symptoms not to porly but under the weather your only meant to be able to get it once

glassslipper · 26/03/2007 17:42

lulumama my dd went like this

tue - high temp
wed - tummy ache
thu - sticky eye? then rash in evening

rash last about 2-3 days

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:42

what are her cheeks like lulu?

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:43

thanks glasslipper, sniff & franca!

am being persuaded it is viral...does she need to be quarantined or it too late now!!

OP posts:
lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:43

face is clear, seems confined to her torso, tummy and fanjo !

Rash
Typically, the rash looks like a bright red scald on one or both cheeks. It looks as if the cheek(s) have been slapped. Sometimes there is just a blotchy redness on the face. The rash is painless. Sometimes a more widespread faint rash appears on the body, arms, and legs. Occasionally, the rash on the face and body keeps fading and returning several times for up to four weeks. However, it is more common for the rash to come and go completely within a few days

I have known children with no rash on face

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:44

dd had snotty nose/sticky eyes, mild temperature for a few days
then raised temp and vomited one night
rash/high temp/but good mood
seen by the doctor on the 3rd day of rash. diagnosed as "viral infection". calpol as usual. rash disappeared on the 4th day, leaving very dry skin

glassslipper · 26/03/2007 17:45

my Dr wouldnt commit to rubella but said it 'probably was' - very stressful if you have pregnant friends . if it was then she would be infectious for 10 days before the rash came and 3 days after.

i tild my preschool who werent too bothered as it isnt a problem for kids but put a notice up just in case.

if it had been 'just a virus' then nothing to worry about.

uptomyeyes · 26/03/2007 17:50

My childminders son was diagnosed with a strain of slap cheek last week. His rash was flat, blotchy, pale pink and covered his torso. Mild fever but otherwise well enough.

Hope your daughter gets well soon.

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:50

But rubella is viral as well, isn't it? gosh I need to study my childhood illness textbook .

glassslipper · 26/03/2007 17:51

yes rubella is viral.

lulumama · 26/03/2007 17:51

thanks all ! all the pregnant ladies i know are in the second trimester at least....

OP posts:
franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:54

but it can't be rubella, can it, if babylulu has just had her mmr? I hope she'll feel better soon!

glassslipper · 26/03/2007 18:07

yes, i thought they could never get it either

my dd had her mmr at 13 months. she turned 3 a few weeks ago and the dr seemed to think it was that. apparently they can still get it, just less severely.
