So is a missed period when you are not pregnant any cause for concern?

I'm 44 so realise that it could potentially be the onset of menopause. Think I'm just concerned because there's been no other symptoms of menopause and periods are normally bang on time

Definitely not pregnant did a Poundland cheapie to rule it out.

Any cause for concern?

When my BMI dropped into underweight l missed some periods at 43. Crept back up to 18.5ish BMI and returned to regular cycle. Could it be that?

RaynaJaymes · 22/07/2017 13:12

I'm sadly more on the overweight side than underweight. I have started an exercise programme recently but I wouldn't say a level of exercise to cause a missed period
It's all a bit puzzling

If there's no other symptoms the nhs only recommends seeing a doctor after missing three. Like mysteryfairy mine disappears if I lose weight quickly and I think stress can affect it as well.

I could have written this post. I'm 44 and I have just missed 2 periods in a row. Displaying lots of pregnancy symptoms but bfn's. Dr did blood test to confirm no pregnancy and was going to do further investigations but AF turned up 8 weeks and9 days late😩

RaynaJaymes · 22/07/2017 13:33

That's really interesting Wants.
So blood tests didn't show any reason for it?

Oh sorry misread that. Was the blood test just to rule out pregnancy?

Yes, blood test was just to gauge hcg levels. Dr is meant to be phoning on Monday to discuss things further but the fact AF has turned up now probably means no further action will be taken now.

I was trying to conceive this year, and the month before I got my BFP my period was 10 days late. While I was researching to abate my mad symptom spotting, I found out that it is fairly normal in healthy women to have an occasional anovulatory cycle, which can significantly delay a period. So unless it is couple by other symptoms I wouldnt worry to much :)

MrsJayy · 22/07/2017 16:58

You are probably peri menopausal my periods are sketchy now i get them between 21 and 30odd days it is a total pain I have been lke this for two years I am 46. There is a blood test but i think the gp said track for a couple of months before they did it. I am currently on day 10 of a period they joys 😕

RaynaJaymes · 22/07/2017 18:50

Oh MrsJayy what fresh hell is this I have to look forward too. ☹️😊

Some months I am normal 3-5 days but this 10 day happened 3 timesthis year already

PollyPerky · 22/07/2017 19:54

At 44 this is normal.
Read about peri menopause. Your periods can go awol for up to 10 years in the run up to menopause. Missing one, series of normal ones, missing more than one, then normal ones- all to be expected.
