I'm thinking of taking the plunge and having one as the lesser of two evils, as I have been having a lot of iron drips lately. I've heard loads about side effects. What's it really like, and what about the hormone it releases? Don't like the sound of that.

I had it for a while, before I had it taken out to have another baby. I must say I had absolutely no probs with it at all. It was great, no side affects, and I will have another one put in after this baby is born HTH

heavy periods vs chance of no periods!! i'd go for the latter!!
Hormonal stuff not usually a problem as not systemically absorbed , the hormone only works locally on lining of the womb; but there are some who are really sensitive to progestogen who seem to be affected by it...but they really are in the minority.
Worst thing for some is the first 3 months, when you have a chance of irregular but usually light bleeding.

Better and better! I've been avoiding this for yonks, but after 6 iron drips and the threat of more, I think it's time. I was most worried about it making me feel nauseous, as I get that a lot anyway.

Just a query...do you know what's causing your heavy periods? If it's fibroids the Mirena might not be ok.

SauerKraut · 29/03/2007 19:51

I've always had them, and scans haven't shown anything. The doctor will do a scan as he puts it in, to make sure there's no problem. I suppose I could still come away without it!

Oh that's ok then. Have a lovely ( ) time and good luck!

Thanks! I'll try...
