Blood in baby's nappies.

dd2 is three and a half months old. Twice last month (a week apart) ahe had blood lying on top of the poo in hger nappy. Each time I took her to the doctor and whilst he thinks she has probably had a little rip with the force of the poo he has refered her to the hospital. The appointment is in a couple of weeks. She had another nappy with blood in the other night after being fine for weeks.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Sorry, don't have any experience of this. Have you tried giving her more water? Just thinking that if her poos are hard and difficult to get out, maybe you need to make them more runny iykwim?

She is totally breastfed and her poos are very soft and runny - it's just sometimes she does a really explosive poo witha lot of force.

I had this with Ds, now 17 mths. He had this over a period of about 2 weeks, doc referred us to hospital. It got really bad at one point, looked like bloody jelly, i freaked. Hospital could find no reason, he was otherwise ok. They said that his explosive poos were causing fissures in his passage. I went home and had a look at what i had been doing. I had been taking Fenugreek to boost my supply, which i thought was a bit down.....i stopped it and he stopped with the blood in his poos. Maybe nothing to do with it, but when i read up on my breastfeeding bible website, it did say that too much fore milk in some cases cause blood in stools, and i think maybe the fenugreek was causing too much fore milk? Not a medical reason i know, just my opinion. He has been fine ever since.

That's really interesting. Thanks. The blood seems very similar - dd2's is like it is suspended in saliva rather than regular watery blood.

That sounds very like what my wee man had, and probably around the same age too. I remember being hysterical when i saw it, my other two had had nothing like it before. It was horrible, almost like mucus filled with blood...It was kind of "stretchy".yuck. I am glad i got him checked though, and they did call him back every couple of months to check, but he was fine.

That does sound just the same. She's my third too and I never saw anything like this with the other two. I freaked out the first time and rushed her to the duty doctor (was evening, of course) but he was very thorough and reassuring.

Wooohoo!!!
Yup, i know, so many different things. I thought i would work my way through it, and started at oversupply first, so cut out the fenugreek. I think i just mistook a "high needs" baby for lack of milk......settled for a sling instead!
