Spot/lump on scalp

I discovered a tender spot on my scalp a few days ago. It feels like a small spot - the hard type that annoyingly lurk under the skin refusing to come to a head (no pun intended). It itches a bit but I've tried my best not to scratch it. Savlon didn't help and now the lump feels a bit bigger. I've whacked TCP on it and am going to take an antihistamine for the itching. DH has had a look and said it looks like either a spot with no head, or a bite.

Has anyone had anything like this?

Just found this post while looking for something else on the health board!

It may be folliculitis, which I get quite often. i get spots on my scalp which then come to a head and bleed/discharge some pus easily (delightful).
It's hard to treat unfortunately. MooGoo shampoo helps. i'm post-menopausal now, but it used to get worse when my period was due and cleared up completely when I was pregnant, but that's a rather drastic solution Grin.
Your GP can prescribe a steroid solution, which helps but should be used sparingly. If it gets really bad there are antibiotics which help, but they need to be taken for at least 8 weeks and some GPs won't prescribe them for long enough.
HTH.

Thanks, Missing. I kept trying TCP, then tea tree oil, then lavender oil. Last week I noticed it felt 'squishy' so I had a look and there was a tiny white head on it. So I used a hot flannel on it then popped it - hurt like a mofo and gunk/blood came out. Whacked TCP on again and left it alone. Only a tiny bump there now. Grin

I have had the occasional spot on my scalp but this was really big (and itchy!). If I get another one the same, I will go to my GP. Thanks.

You're welcome! I'll keep my fingers x'd for you that it was a one-off Smile
