Have been wondering about this for a while and keep making doctors appointments and cancelling them as not sure if it is enough to require doc... not in pain but mind working overtime thinking it could be any range of debillitating illnesses... my hypochondria does not allow for illnesses that kill but just ruin life quality and make me dependant on others (Romm 101 stuff for me!!)

I keep getting weird feeling in my arms - that is the only way to describe it ... not really a tingle, almost a twitch sometimes but generally just a feeling that all is not right - they kind of feel a bit weak... almost expect them not to work but they always do... starts in my shoulder blades and then get weird feeling in elbows and hands...but no actual loss of grip..

Like I say it does not hurt, but I keep getting obsessed with it being MS,MND .. do I need a doc or a psychiatrist?

Please be honest - maybe I just need a good talking to!!

no idea what it could be but if i were you i would have seen a doctor about it by now. perhaps keep a diary of when it happens until you see your GP. any other symptoms? are you on any medication that might cause this to happen?

MancMum · 13/07/2004 19:36

Thanks Branster.... no other symptoms... fairly tired but then have 2 kids and full time job.. not on any medication, healthy diet.. no smoking, drink when I go out... ie never!!

Diary is a good idea... Cheers

It's probably nothing and you're feeling symptoms because you're looking for something.
However it's obviously worrying you and won't stop worrying you until you get it checked out so go to the doctor.
If it's any comfort my mum has MS and your symptoms don't sound right - early signs are blurred vision and any tingling would be accompanied by weakness so the fact that your grip is fine is a good sign.

Always follow up on these things but keeping a diary is a great idea.
I hate to put ideas like this forward but things that effect the spine and brain sometimes have really strange symptoms - check it out, at least being told it is nothing will make you feel reassured.

Mancmum - I agree with sponge. It's probably nothing serious but if it's worrying you, get it checked, then you can get on with enjoying your life!! From what you described, sounds similar to something I had which turned out to be a trapped nerve in my neck, not saying that's what it is, but at least it gives you an indication that symptoms don't always point to something terrible!

prufrock · 14/07/2004 01:10

Mancmum - I had something similar but only in my arm from elbow down. Saw a specialist who pronounced tendonitis and prescribed no more typing for a while.

it could be carpal tunnel syndrome, from typing or picking the kiddies up a lot. The pain can radiate up the arm to the shoulder and sometimes as far as the neck. Additionally numbness usually strikes in the hands and sometimes the wrist on a daily occurrence.

By using massage strokes and passive movement this releases muscle tension and frees the connective tissue found around the joints that can bind the joints. Friction from massage warms the area, relaxing the tissues and stimulating the flow of built-up fats and proteins. This is one of the least invasive forms of care for CTS.

An easy way to determine if massage can improve a person?s soft tissue condition is to use heat. If the condition decreases in any way when heat is applied- regardless of how slight and even though it comes back when the heat is removed - massage can help. Also, if the pain gets more intense then lessens when heat is applied, massage should also be able to help.

It is important that a doctor has checked for any infection, as this should be treated before any massage sessions.

best wishes

I used to get something similar with panic attacks. The blood flow is affected so the arms feel numb. It would come with other symptoms too though.

Hope yo get to docs soon as sometimes this is enough to make you feel better

MancMum · 15/07/2004 15:08

Thanks for all your much appreciated advice - I am going to see the doctor as a couple of things mentioned do ring true - Carpal tunnel/panic attacks.. also I have noticed it improves when I have massages for my stiff neck....

Feeling loads calmer ... THANK YOU!
