If it's slapped cheek, once the rash appears he's not contagious anymore. It's only infectious for a week before the rash comes out. If he feels OK then it's alright to take him out.

That's what my rash book says anyway - and that's the guidelines from our school too.

It's usually a pretty mild illness in children, many people have had it it without symptoms at all.

It is potentially risky to women under 20 weeks pregnant who are not already immune to Slapped Cheek. The risk is small but real.
It could be a lot of other things, of course! Slapped Cheek is often missed completely by parents or doctors just because its symptoms are so common to other viruses.
If it is easy for you to find someone to leave him with for the concert, I would do it, tbh. I had a Slapped Cheek scare when pregnant.
Check the NHS Direct website for info om Slapped Cheek. It is also called Fifth Disease and Parvo (nb not the same as the very serious Parvo virus that dogs get) btw.
Hope he feels better soon. You're not pg yourself I hope ginnedupmummy?

But if what raspberryberet says about the rash appearing is correct then you don't need to worry about infecting others at least

Some info from NHS Direct here which also says the infectious period is before the rash appears.

But as Marina says it might be something else ...
