hi we are on holiday in europe and due to fly to another country tomorrow; DD's asthma has got worse over the last 6 months (incl hospital admittance last month) after some years where it has been very low key; this week she has got worse and worse again - is on 10 puffs of her reliever every 4 hours plus her preventer twice a day, and still coughing and chest whistling noisily. Any thoughts on whether she should be ok to fly tomorrow? i can try to find us a dr in the morning but not sur how easy it is going to be to explain history etc (i am rubbish at languages). I feel kind of stuck - if we don't travel, should we stay here until the asthma is completely settled down again?? sorry for long post - just a bit lost on what to do for the best for DD

Ten puffs every four hours is A LOT. I'm not a doctor or a HCP but I'm asthmatic and I'd be taking myself to the doctors in her position.

I'd personally not want to fly. Her asthma needs to be brought under control.

I'd be wanting her to be seen by a doctor tonight.

Best wishes

Feellike - thank you; yes if we were at home i would def take her to the dr. We have always been told 10puffs every 4 hours is 'ok', but to seek help beyond that. She is sleeping with me now, but coughing still - so if we don't end up at the dr tonight (and i have google maps at the ready and the phone number at the ready) then we will def go as soon as it opens in the morning and then decide what next.

Don't be scared to ring for an ambulance either OP - if need be -rather than try to get her to a doctors surgery yourself in an unfamiliar country.

Hope she's better soon.

I have severe asthma and in your shoes I would be trying to get some steroids from somewhere. 10 puffs every 4 hours shows that her asthma is not under control at all, something else is definitely needed asap.

When mine was that unstable, the GP wanted me on oral steroids before pronouncing me safe to fly, I'm afraid. Hope she's feeling better soon.

With DD if we have to do 10 puffs and it still hasn't helped we are told to call an ambulance

10 puffs every 4 hours fine for a couple of times but any more seek medical help and no please don't fly.
