Plantar Fasciitis

CobblersandHogwash · 19/07/2017 14:00

So I've been suffering with heel pain from plantar fasciitis for some weeks now. Been running and exercising as usual.

I have been rolling my foot on frozen water bottles to help alleviate the pain.

Now I have a big lump on the sole of my foot just in front of my heel.

What the hell is that? Is my foot collapsing?

Is the pain worse in the lump?

Dons1975 · 19/07/2017 14:04

I had it last year for about 8 months it was excrutiating! The best thing I got was sketchers go walk and stopped going bare foot. Also did small foot exercises /stretches. I'm not sure running will help tbh? It does get better tho eventually

Pain is still in heel not lump.

I have to run. It's the only way I can keep fit, lose weight etc. Bugger it. I'm not to run??

Not sure about the lump but my DH had to stop running due to plantar fasciitis and had taken up cycling instead - his foot is much better and he's still getting exercise.

I had this and still do if I overdo things especially walking on concrete. No idea what the lump is or if it's related but I very much doubt your running is helping. When I was diagnosed I was told to rest as much as possible to allow it to heal and just stretch it regularly. The reason I still suffer from it as I couldn't rest it, I worked in a pub and did 12 hour shifts on my feet constantly. Hope you feel better soon

I have this. It's no worse if i run so i carry on. I take ibuprofen when it's particularly bad but most of the time I can just get on with life.

Do you maybe need better instep support in your trainers?

DS suffers from this and podiatrist SIL says (as well as stretching etc) that he needs to always make sure his instep is fully supported. It flared up on holiday as he was wearing flip flops.

😕 poor you. It goes eventually. I think strengthening my calf muscles might have helped mine, but I had had it a while so maybe it just got better.

Teaformeplease · 19/07/2017 14:57

I've got this too. Wearing compression socks at night (for the last week) has helped a bit. I've had it for a year now and wish it would go.

First thing in the morning sit on the edge of your bed and pick up a pencil/pen from the floor with the toes of your affected foot a few times. I read this tip on MN a while ago and it really helped me.

Ok I've had plantar for around two years.
I still have it but am quick to manage it now.
The following is a list of tips I've been given by physio in London whom I saw through work and finally got the condition under control;

  1. no barefoot walking anywhere!! Crocs although ugly are a lifesaver for plantar. Buy a pair just to wear at home
  2. buy "tulis gel heel cups"- amazon £9 ish- place them in shoes everyday - lifesaver for heel pain
  3. stand on bottom step of stairs, both feet on one step next to each other, let your heels drop as low as you can in increments for 10 mins, so go up, drop your heels, then go up again and see if can drop lower. This stretches the calf tendon.try to do this morning and night.
  4. if you can also freeze a chunky water bottle and whilst mn'ing, roll affected foot over it back An forth for 10 mins.
  5. take ibroprofen am /pm for a week when at its worst.

That's it.
It's a condition that can be treated, or you just learn to regonise and treat it as you go if there.reports say can last up to 18 months!!
