Woke up yesterday with that horrible scratchy feeling at the back of my throat couldn't sleep last night due to blocked nose so roughly only 4 hrs sleep tops
Nose is still a bit blocked from time to time the day but feel warm even worse when its warm outside too but have noticed my heart rate is really fast (have a app on phone to check) roughly 100 + is this normal when not well
Freaking out a tad do have anxiety too

Are you dehydrated?!

PatMullins · 18/07/2017 17:10

I know mine rises when I have an infection.

Thinkcalmthoughts · 18/07/2017 17:13

I'm drinking plenty of water and diluting juice that much I'm back in forward to the loo lol

Are you sure your app is accurate? I would check the traditional way - pulse on wrist, over 30 seconds x 2.

Anything up to around 90 Per min when resting is normal. Sometimes it can go slightly higher when you're ill but if you feel very unwell and have other symptoms you're concerned about I would seek medical advice.

Thinkcalmthoughts · 18/07/2017 17:27

Ita that Samsung health app sometimes I wonder if it's really accurate or not lol have felt my pulse does seem to be fast than normal but will check the traditional way

I do feel ok just obviously shattered and warm slightly

When ringing emergency for an ambulance the advice is to check the pulse in your neck. If your heart rate is above 100 do go and seek medical advice.

If you're suffering from anxiety it's possible that this could impact on your heart rate, but don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Endocarditis is in fact much more common than we realise and can be serious (mortality rate of around 40%) and can be brought on by infection.

PS: I have a heart condition brought on by the flu which attacked my heart last year. Spent three days on life support and very nearly wasn't here to tell the tale and now waiting for surgery to replace a valve.

Thinkcalmthoughts · 18/07/2017 17:52

Checked it by doing what fairylee said was no where near the 100 that the app is saying actually think the health app is not as good or accurate

These apps are the work of the devil and just breed anxiety IMO. Also do bear in mind that they use an average, so if your heart rate is predominantly 80 bpm but you have a blip where it goes up a few beats for a short time then the average gets increased.

Thinkcalmthoughts · 18/07/2017 18:20

Had always doubted the app wannabe after some time plus I've worked hard to keep calm and keep the anxiety under control which is mostly health related as I tend to freak out lol

There are several heart rate apps - all pretty accurate in my opinion (checked with hospital and very similar results).
I find my heart rate rises when hot and dehydrated - especially if I push myself. 100 isn't that high though, nothing to worry about. Just try to rest, drink fluids (and make sure you get salts too) and try to get better.
The apps are much better than the wrist monitors.

Fortheloveofscience · 18/07/2017 19:13

Your resting heart rate probably is elevated if you're coming down with something. My 'normal' is 50-60bpm, but if it goes to 80+ I'm guaranteed a cold in the next day or so.

I'd be concerned if it was 100, but it is normal for it to be elevated when your body's trying to fight off an infection.

Stardustandicecream · 18/07/2017 19:31

Yes hr rises with a temperature and when fighting an infection / usually by about 20 beats per minute ime

Stardustandicecream · 18/07/2017 19:33

Try to reduce your temp with paracetamol etc and you'll probably find your hr reduces too

Pleasemrstweedie · 18/07/2017 19:36

This is perfectly normal with a viral infection and should settle as you recover.

This always happens to me when I have a virus. The last time I had a heart rate of 150 just from climbing the stairs. My GP was very reassuring.

Twopeapods · 18/07/2017 22:51

It's normal with a fever and dehydration. So keep sipping water to help.
Mine went up to 160 beats per minute with sepsis. The GP sent me straight to hospital and within minutes I was hooked up to machines and went to intensive care. I didn't even know it was fast I felt so bad.
