Anyone taking Pregabalin for neuralgia?

Hi everyone

I have just started taking this and just wondered if anyone has found this has helped with neuralgia? I've tried a couple of other medications which either didn't work for or caused terrible side effects, I'm starting to lose hope that anything will work so really crossing my fingers for this one.

xx

I take it for a nerve pain condition (CRPS) and its working for me. You do have to work up the dose slowly - its taken me 5 months to get to the therapeutic dose, but I haven't had side effect problems doing it this way

I took it for about a year. Took some adjusting to whilst the dose was increased and then I could live a normal life, and gradually weaned off it again. Give it time Flowers

Thank you both for the replies - really glad to hear it has worked for you. I think I must been on quite a low dose to start so I know I need to be patient - I think I am feeling so low because I have been living with this pain for so long but I have to accept it will take time.

Lovely to hear some positive stories,

xx

Yes, you do have to be patient I'm afraid Sad but its far better to start low and slow than have side effects you can't cope with. At first I couldn't have said I was in less pain, but I was less snappy. Then I felt a bit more cheerful and more rested. Now I'm still in pain, but its more of a background hum of hypersensitivity and burning than a roar - and I can cope with that

I take it for nerve pain in my leg. No real side effects on 400mg a day. It doesn't completely get rid of the pain but helps a lot. I have both a deep burning sensation (like my leg is made of ice) and a hypersensitivity to light touch (like sunburn) and the Pregabalin has hugely reduced both sensations. I started on 150mg and increased by 50mg per fortnight initially then per week once more used to it.

I take it for anxiety, but as a side issue it's completely cured the hideous nerve pain I was suffering from a Morton's Neuroma . It has really helped the anxiety too, so double whammy. I have put on a lot of weight though, which I'm now trying to shift.

I take it for a spinal disorder that has caused DDD. I take 75mg in the morning and again before bed at night. Started on 25, then 50 and now 75.

Doc said the trick was to find the dose which helped enough but didn't cause too much brain fog (or whatever his words were).

It has changed my life. Genuinely.

I am still in pain but I can function without the soul crushing pain of before.

Also, I know that an increase in dose is open to me in the future should I need it.

I was on it...HUGE dose for Trigeminal Neuralgia. Because of the TN being totally incapacitating the dose was ramped up very quickly and as a result I was a total zombie for a few weeks. But once I'd adjusted it was amazing.
A year later I was switched to Gabapentin as it was under control and finally after 5 years I recently weaned off all meds completely.

It's a good nerve pain med. It did give me the munchies however...I had to be quite aware of what I was eating to avoid putting on weight!
