Tick Bite?

Does this look like a tick bite? It's hot & incredibly itchy. My dog has had a lot of ticks lately which is why I'm asking.

Horsefly? I react badly to them.
I thought ticks shoved their head in and you had to make sure you got it all out. It doesn't look like there's anything black in there.
Stick on some antihistamine cream and see if that helps.

Hueandcry · 15/07/2017 14:46

Ive taken antihistamines & covered it in cream but its still really itchy. I didnt see anything so probably not a tick then

It looks like a spider bite to me.

Hueandcry · 17/07/2017 22:47

Aaaaargh do spiders bite? Shock

Tick bites DO itch or certainly do when I get them. I have been bitten many times (and one of our DC had Lyme disease) and I would definitely say this seems unlikely to be one as mine look like this only after removing one - I always notice it first

Junglefowl · 17/07/2017 22:52

If I had that I wouldn't be worried, probably a mosquito or other rude insect ! They are so annoying

RhuBarbarella · 17/07/2017 22:55

Tick bites do itch! I have to cover them in anti histamine cream otherwise I keep scratching. (Scotland, loads of the nasty feckers here you don't have one so that's not it. It could be a mozzie bite. Sometimes they go wild. Or a horsefly but they usually hurt when they bite you so you'd notice. Not thinking about spiders.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/07/2017 23:05

Spiders can definitely bite.

Redhound · 18/07/2017 00:01

My guess would be horse fly. Very itchy.

Hueandcry · 18/07/2017 03:52

I'm in Scotland too

It doesn't look like a tick bite to me. (Lots of experience!). Have you done something to help your dog so he/doesn't get ticks? It can be fatal you know.

Hueandcry · 19/07/2017 22:32

He gets something called Bravecto from the vet every 3 months. It usually works well but they are particularly rife here this year

If it was a tick it'd still be attached surely?

Giraffey1 · 19/07/2017 22:36

Ask a pharmacist tomorrow when they're open for business. They will be able to advise you.

ErnesttheBavarian · 20/07/2017 06:33

I'd suggest you try a different product. My dog must be extra tasty and would get loads. We tried about 5 different things till we finally found this one, and she hasn't had a single one since. She would get up to 20 a day, even with anti tick stuff!
