Has anyone else's baby had an EEG? What to expect?

My daughter had a one-off seizure episode a few weeks ago, was normal immediately after, and has been perfectly fine ever since - leading me to doubt whether I really saw anything, as my husband and medical professionals have told me maybe it wasn't a seizure I saw. Obviously I'd love to be wrong. But she is booked in for an EEG on Monday. We've been told to keep her awake for four hours so that she sleeps through it, and that they 'try to induce a fit'. This is really quite scary. I'm especially worried that I won't be able to keep her awake, or she won't be able to sleep in such a stressful situation, and that she'll be really upset or it could cause her some harm. I'm sure they don't do things that harm babies, but would appreciate any information from anyone who knows more than me. Thanks.

Not sure i know more than you but my dd had one a few years ago. They attatch a lot of wires to their head which in my dd's case took the longest as they attatched each wire individualy. Then they did various things can't remember but one invoved flashing lights in her face.

Everything turned out o be ok so fingers crossed your LO will be ok.

Thanks, ali. I am just going to have to dig my fingernails into my palms as we get through it, it's not like a little crying will kill her, and it is important to get her checked out. Great news that your dd got the all clear!

Oh hell, Bethron, I'm glad I saw the picture - that's a really quite scary amount of wires! It must take hours to do all of that? Your little one is absolutely adorable with his little bottle.

I hope she's too young (17 weeks) to know anything very different is going on. Oh, can I just not take her?

i woke her for her last feed of the night and she jerked spadmodically in sets of threes for a total of ten seconds, then emitted a piercing shriek I've never heard before or since, and nothing like any of her normal cries.

half an hour doesn't sound too bad. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, you sound very good about it.

Poor little thing, he is a total sweetheart. I can't thank you enough for this info - it's awful not knowing what's going to happen and having absolutely no clue about what's going on, so this is terrific.

Now I just have to keep her awake for the next four hours...

Oh, so that wasn't too bad, although she screamed her head off all the way through the wire attaching. We sort of got the giggles because she was so angry, including the EEG woman, and finally when I had to feed her, I'd shaken the bottle and the milk squirted all over her face, adding insult to injury, and then we all lost it, the baby with sheer rage, and the rest of us laughing. I hope she's okay, and I'm very glad I knew what she was going to look like, because it was like one of those 80s films where the man is revealed to be a computer and rips off a part of his body and he's all wires.
