I would arrange a babysitter unless your toddler sits incredibly still for ages! you can be sat a round for a while and it isn't easy to keep an eye on them while you lie down.

It takes quite a long time and as you may be feeling a little tense anyway, I would think better done on your own. You may feel a little dizzy / disorientated afterwards so best not to be in charge of a young child, plus a small person charging around being noisy and inquisitive may not be too popular with the medical staff and other donors

I'd arrange a babysitter

its fine for blood tests but giving blood can take up to half an hour and you're supposed to lie still for a little time afterwards and you could be a little light-headed

ok, babysitter it is then. Never done it before

I second a babysitter. I've been a blood donor for years and never seen anyone turn up with a baby or a toddler.

I went a few months ago, I arrived at 5.30pm and left at 8.00pm!!! That was a long time.

wow Northerner that must be a record!
I book my appointment now as there is a donor suite near me and don't usually have to wait around too long

northerner · 24/03/2007 12:27

I know. It was packed, I hav enever seem so many people. It wasn't teh actual giving that took longer - just getting to taht bit!
