Hi, I have had a kidney transplant because I had kidney disease and my kidneys failed (twice-like long story.) Has anyone else had a transplant and got pregnant? I want to know what I'm in for?

I actually just came on to ask if anyone has had a kidney transplant as will need one in the next few years (due to CKD) and am terrified!

I conceived baby number 2 once diagnosed but was told before hand by the specialist that I would have a better outcome once transplanted (however we took the chance and all was well) so I think the chance of a successful pregnancy in transplant patients is good.

Hopefully someone will come along with more experience but wishing you all the best OP.

Ah that's brilliant Mini, thank you. Hope someone comes along to help soon, if not maybe try posting in pregnancy?

Your blog is brilliant Mini and exactly what I needed. I haven't been able to find anything about young people who have been through this and have been feeling so lonely. Thank you so much, it sounds cheesy but you are an inspiration. Thank you xx

Are you in US?

In UK, family planning = contraception, which sounds exactly what you're not after! I wish you well on you planned parenthood.

I'm assuming you're stable, but even so ou need to see your doctor to review your medication before conception.

Once pregnancy, in UK, you can expect consultant-led care and close monitoring for both you and the developing baby. You may need to be admitted.

And you may need to make hard choices should there be signs that your pregnancy is causing your transplant to fail. But what those choices are depend on many factors, and will be personal to you. There's no getting away from the additional risks. But it can be done successfully.

Other than sorting your meds out a good 6 weeks before you TTC, there isn't much that you can do other than hope your body rises to the occasion and believe that it can.

Yes I am in the uk 🇬🇧 it's my blog name (sorry for confusion) I was curious what other people's experiences are when starting the journey! I have now got my gynaecologist/obstetrician appointment in October! I'm nearly at my 1 year anniversary, I'm stable and my function is at 79/80% ! I'm aware that we are monitored and put on bed rest the last 3 months or so! I've been put on follic acid 3 months before my appointment! Thank you for the information!
