Molar extraction questions!

I had my lower right molar extracted on Wednesday and it's still quite sore. I'm having to take ibuprofen and paracetamol still and it's still swollen. It was a bit of a pain to extract, the dentist had to cut it in to two bits to get it out. I don't think I have dry socket as I can see the clot but I'm wondering if it's normal to still be this sore and swolt 3/4 days after having it out? I'm not sure if it's infected, I do have a slightly odd taste in my mouth but I can't see anything particularly unusual. It's still throbbing a bit when the pain killers wear off as well.
I've been using salt water but it makes me feel sick, wondering if I can use corsodyl instead?
What have other people experienced?
Thanks in advance.

If you have a slightly odd taste in your mouth then you might have a bit of dry socket. If you go to your dentist to check it out they can pack the socket with some stuff, it gave me some instant relief!

Should add that a little bit of the clot came out of my wisdom tooth extraction, I had shooting type pains, but some soreness, and my dentist told me that I had a bit of infection.

Thanks, did you need antibiotics or anything? I only ask because I hate taking them!

I had a molar out in January and it actually hurt worse by day 3/4 (bruised and achy) - it took the swelling and achiness about a week to go down. (But I can't take painkillers which may have made it seem worse.) I asked the dentist about corsodyl as I use it all the time and hate salted water. He said I could use it from day 2, just not to 'swish' forcefully.

Hope it feels better soon. Smile

I had antibiotics before the tooth came out because there was an infection under it. I think once the tooth is out they assume any lingering infection will clear up on it's own.

That's reassuring, thanks :) How on earth did you cope without painkillers? I think I'd have had to have a week off work if I couldn't take them!

X-posted with life
Ah I see, mine was a cracked root canal so no infection pre removal.
