So I'm considering crying in bed as I've woken up in agony, I have my 7month old laying beside me so trying not to fuss as much. I'm at a family friends tonight, so can't really cry out in mean. Literally feels like my jaw is being sawed open

poor you
co-codamol is good

Dibbles1967 · 01/07/2017 03:33

Ouch, poor you. Toothache is truly hideous.

Even if you're taking painkillers, make up a saltwater solution - two teaspoons dissolved in hat water from the kettle, then top it up with cool water until it's tepid. Swish it for a minute or so every 15 minutes whilst you're awake, then do the same when you get up. It really helps (rescued me loads of times with my wisdom teeth)

Then get to the dentist ASAP.

Good luck & hope you feel better soon

Dibbles1967 · 01/07/2017 03:34

*hot! HOT water

OliviaBenson · 01/07/2017 04:04

Hot salty water will help. If I was your friend I would have no problem you waking me up with thus. Toothache is horrid!

Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2017 04:31

You poor thing. My heart breaks for you. Get to a dentist as soon as possible.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 01/07/2017 04:50

Oh you poor thing, Flowers

It's now 2 hrs later than your post.
If situation's not improved, please just wake the family friend.
(If it were the other way round, you wouldn't want them to lie crying in agony, for fear of waking you, I'm sure?).

They can sort you some emergency treatment with an out-of-hours dentist (or at least go and get some better pain relief to tide you over? Or keep watch over the baby, whilst you try the method above).

Hope you're pain-free ASAP.

Managed to fall asleep but now up again in pain. Have taken some more paracetamol, I can't take codamol as I'm breastfeeding. Tried hot Salty water but not much relief just waiting for the pain to dull down so I can fall asleep again. I think I've been grinding my teeth in which then makes the pain even worse

Hi OP, you'd have to check whether it's safe with bf but ask for Oragel at the pharmacy counter, it's the most effective thing I've found for toothache and should help get you through til you can see a dentist. If you can't have it because you're bf 111 should be able to tell you if there's an emergency dental service in your area, ours is open on a Saturday. Hope you get it sorted Flowers

Starfairylights · 01/07/2017 10:25

Managed to get some sleep and will call 111. I went to the dentist two days ago who put a cap in placed I can get the tooth removed. Thing is I'm absolutely terrified of getting in removed,as they would probably have to cut the gum. I am very very scared

*Until I can get the tooth

Crushed garlic mixed with a bit of salt then placed as close as you can to area. Has worked for me.

freshstart24 · 01/07/2017 10:59

Sorry to hear about this.

Just wanted to say that I went to the dentist with toothache in a lower wisdom tooth yesterday. He recommended removing it there and then or in hospital- I went for the first option as I just wanted it sorted.

It really, honestly and truly wasn't too bad at all.

Just wanted to let you know that an extraction isn't necessarily as painful and horrid as you might think.

Good luck xx

ASDismynormality · 01/07/2017 11:01

Considering the amount of pain you are in having the tooth out will be a huge relief. Hope you feel better soon x

jimijack · 01/07/2017 11:08

111 can advise on emergency dentist in your area, can give you contact details to get booked in.

Please please write down the Times that you take the paracetamol and/or ibuprofen.
Don't be tempted to take more than the recommended amount.
Ibuprofen is 8 hourly, paracetamol is 4-6 hourly.
Write the Times down so you can accurately time the next dose.

The amount of people who take massive overdoses because of tooth pain is unreal (totally understandable) but scary.

Don't put anything on or around the tooth, no gels/lotions/potions as this can cause irritation to the gum impeding healing.

Ring 111.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/07/2017 11:08

Clove oil is very good for toothache.

user128057 · 01/07/2017 11:20

Definitely ring 111. They were really nice to me when I was screaming in agony with an abscess. The emergency dentist I went and saw didn't do tooth extraction. They were basically there just to sort pain relief out so don't be surprised if they won't take yours out. Try a hot water bottle (that seemed to ease mine) I also was using clove oil but got told off for using it by 111 as it can make the tooth worse. Good luck hope you get it sorted.

Starfairylights · 01/07/2017 12:15

Thanks everyone. Gonna get myself dressed then call 111. I've been taking paracetamol every 4 hours. Pain has eased a bit, seems to get worse at night

OP posts:
differentnameforthis · 01/07/2017 12:28

Please DO NOT put a hot water bottle on your face...it is infected, you can spread the infection!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 01/07/2017 23:00

OP,

Hope you managed to get some emergency pain relief somehow, and get a decent night's rest.

Starfairylights · 01/07/2017 23:37

Thank you I did. Feeling much better, thanks for all the support
