Glandular fever experience?

Evening folks,

Could anyone who's had glandular fever as an adult share their experiences of how long it took you to feel better - back to normal?
I'm trying to work out if a sudden downwards spiral of tiredness is related to my GF 5/6 months ago Confused

Thanks xx

I had it when I was 18 and it took me a good year to recover fully and build my immunity back up.
Sympathies- it's a horrid illness. It really knocked me off my feet.

It's rubbish isn't it! I thought I was mostly over it and seem to have taken a big step backwards.

Almost certainly OP. You will need to pace yourself.

My DD2 had it at 18... she was really ill with it, but even when 'recovered' she was totally wiped out. To be honest it was nearly 18 months before she was back to normal again..every little bug led to huge glands again, total exhaustion etc

I had it (aged 36) over Christmas. I'm still suffering from fatigue and low immune system - I've just got shingles now! Horrible illness. I have never felt so unwell. I had bacterial tonsillitis at the same time and had 3 lots of strong antibiotics followed by weeks of feeling awful.

Vicky2929 · 29/06/2017 23:22

Fairylea I was the same to rounds of bacterial tonsillitis before they tested me for glandular fever and worked out what was going on.
I've been signed off work for 1.5 weeks so am going to attempt to rest, as much as is possible with 3 kids!
The hardest thing is not having control over feeling better Hmm

Can I ask if you've had results whether its Epstein Barr or mono?

Are there any underlying autoimmune issues?

You need to be aware that EBV can cause aggressive lymphoma. If you have any reason to suspect it please ask for tests right away. My dh nearly died as a direct result of infectious diseases department ignoring the possibility and only standing in awe that his ebv titers were the highest they had seen.

Itching, extreme fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, poor appetite, along with a dozen other things are all indicators that could potentially be lymphoma.

I am not a worry wart or attempting to worry you in any way, I am simply speaking from personal experience. Dh started with tonsillitis, then the GF, extreme fatigue etc etc. I doubt he would be disabled today if they had diagnosed him faster but he also wouldn't be here if they had diagnosed him slower.

Xxx

I would say that I was about 18 months before really getting back to okay, but it has effected me long term.
It may juts be getting older Grin but before I had it, I could get through fine on little sleep. Since I had it, less than 7 hours sleep and I feel terrible.

DP had GF several years that became mono, it destroyed his thyroid so this is worth considering. He was away with work in Australia had to have full medical recovery and did not travel with work for two years after that.
