SINGLE JAB VACCINATIONS (*please no debate*)

Just a quick question (without inviting debate) - does anyone know anywhere in Ireland or Northern Ireland where I can avail of single jab vaccinations for my child? Health issues with our little one and under the guidance of a paediatrician - we are seeking single jab vaccinations, but finding our GP uncooperative.

No, you CANNOT get single dose mumps vac. It isn't manufactured any more.

dementedpixie · 27/06/2017 16:23

Which vaccines do you mean? There are several combined ones

Orlandointhewilderness · 27/06/2017 16:37

For the love of God - vaccinate your children properly!!! There is a damn good reason your GP is reluctant! I take it this is on the back of the other thread. There is NO link between combined vaccine and autism. It has been a discredited made up theory for years now started by a money hungry charlatan with completely fabricated 'research' .

IM NOT REFERRING TO THE MMR! Please read the post! Im NOT ANTI-VACCINE EITHER!!! Due to health issues with my child I am being advised to follow an alternative schedule. I think you are looking for an anti-vaccine debate - find a time machine and get yourself back to the late 90s...

It's all really - offered to infants. We want to find a service where we can devise an alternative schedule to suit our little one (due to health issues)

Surely the paediatrician can tell you, or they wouldn't have suggested it. Hmm

Migraleve · 27/06/2017 16:56

NOT REFERRING TO THE MMR!

What are you referring to then?

KakunaRattata · 27/06/2017 16:58

What is wrong with people, op is trying to get their child vaccinated, clearly not anti vax! Sorry I can't be of help as I'm not in Ireland but wanted to be at least a voice of reason.

scaevola · 27/06/2017 17:02

Which jabs are you seeking to have administered singly?

Many monovalents are simply not manufactured any more - your GP might not be uncooperative, rather telling you the basic truth that they jabs you seek do not exist.

If you would list exactly what you are trying to source, the. Perhaps we might be able to help you find them.

Sidge · 27/06/2017 17:03

There are very few single vaccines available in the UK, I don't know about Ireland.

Most vaccines are combined for good reason, and manufactured and licensed as such. As far as I am aware there are no reputable single vaccines for all the following components we offer infants:

Diphtheria
Tetanus
Inactivated Polio
Hib meningitis
Pertussis
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Meningitis C

Single vaccines are available for Men B and Pneumococcal disease but all of the above are in combination. Some may be imported as single vaccines such as measles, but I don't know how available they are or whether they are licensed for use in the UK or transported and manufactured to UK regulations. The NHS won't supply them.

Can I ask what sort of health issues are causing you to consider single vaccines and who is advising you? Any reputable paediatrician or paediatric immunologist will be able to advise you and source the vaccines needed. Anyone else is probably talking out of their arse.

meditrina · 27/06/2017 17:05

Surely the paediatrician can tell you, or they wouldn't have suggested it

Agree. They must be able to signpost you to the places at which you can fulfill they programme they have recommended for you.

If they cannot, and the jabs they have recommended singly are not available as singles, then I really would be qutioning if that individual has truly kept up with developments in the field.

Sidge · 27/06/2017 17:06

PS I'm a practice nurse and responsible for immunisations in my practice; we do not offer single vaccines except those in the NHS schedule (i.e. Men B and Prevenar oh and Rotavirus, I forgot that one before).

There are very very few complete contraindications for vaccination.

mogulfield · 27/06/2017 17:06

If the Dr is prescribing it then ask the Dr? Surely a medical professional wouldn't have prescribed something that's mythical?

Blowninonabreeze · 27/06/2017 19:13

Who exactly is advising you? Would strongly suspect they're NOT a doctor.

PotteringAlong · 27/06/2017 19:18

If the paediatrician is advising you follow an alternative schedule then do whatever they tell you to. If not then stick to the NHS schedule. But as a pp has said, you will struggle to find no combined vaccinations.

thatorchidmoment · 27/06/2017 19:21

Who exactly is advising you to follow an 'alternative' schedule, and what is the reason given? 'Health issues' is very vague and nebulous. If your child is or has been unwell, a short delay in vaccinating until they recover is sensible, and might delay the subsequent doses in the usual schedule, but shouldn't prevent them from getting the usual vaccine at its normal dose. If there is a problem with allergy, such as egg, your child may be advised to have specific immunisations in a hospital with full resuscitation facilities on hand as some vaccines contain traces of egg, for example. If there is a compelling reason like a severe and rare immunodeficiency, some vaccines can be contraindicated if they are live.

There are some very sound reasons for a child not to receive some vaccines at exactly the ages recommended, or to miss some out, or indeed to have additional ones. I have not seen a good case for the single vaccines instead of the combined, although happy to be corrected.

wheredoesallthetimego · 27/06/2017 19:22

The paediatrician has advised you to split the vaccines? Really? Second opinion time if so.

bumbleymummy · 29/06/2017 11:50

Tetanol Pur is a single tetanus vaccine. It's manufactured by Novartis.

The Babyjabs clinic in London has a list of the vaccines they have available here Maybe you could phone them for advice? If your doctor is advising this alternative schedule would he be happy to administer them for you if you can order them?
