Tooth extraction terror

When I was 15 I got smacked in the mouth when I was playing hockey and most of the impact was on my front teeth. Resulting in my front teeth not being great. But just to add to it just before Christmas I walked into a lamppost ( I am a Muppet). I cut my lip and one of my front teeth really took the impact (again). My lovely dentist said it has to go and I have been clinging to the hope a miracle might save it. But it's now loose and today it goes. I've got a false one to replace it while I get an implant sorted.
So today it goes...! It's already really in a bad way but how hard will in be to remove? Seriously scared and worried at the thought of how I will cope with a false tooth plate.
Any reassurance greatly received.

I'm having a tooth removed this week and also nervous but it's a molar so not at the front. It's actually had failed root canal and it's got to go but I wonder how easy that's going to be seeing as it's proper solid in there! Confused

Pappawasarollingbone · 26/06/2017 07:04

Oh no you poor things. I keep thinking I may just not have a front tooth and just never leave the house again.

Morning ladies.
I'm currently on mat leave from my job as a dentist. Let me reassure you - taking teeth out is no longer something to be feared. I've taken out thousands of teeth and let me tell you - it shouldn't be painful. Obviously going numb isn't comfortable but all you should feel is pushing and pressure once that's done. Your dentist should be reassuring and kind and make you feel relaxed - ask them to put some numbing gel on to ease the discomfort.

Also. Most woman tell me before they would rather give birth. Afterwards they always say they wouldn't.

I'm due Thursday. Can't wait.

Good luck.

SunFinished · 26/06/2017 07:25

Thanks dc that is reassuring. I'm thinking of taking some music to play in my iPod. Do you think that would be allowed?
Good luck to you for the birth and good luck OP and PP with the tooth extractions!

MackerelOfFact · 26/06/2017 07:32

I had 4 healthy adult teeth removed for orthodontic treatment a year or so ago and genuinely didn't feel a thing, so one loose one will come out easily!

You'll probably have to sit there for about 10 minutes for the anaesthetic to work but the actual tooth removal bit takes seconds.

sufficatedsue · 26/06/2017 07:43

I had 2 rotten wisdom teeth taken out , a few months apart. I have pretty bad dentist phobia and I have to say it was ok!! The worst bit was the numbing as obviously it was right at the back and it felt like it numbed my throat - which I was warned about- oh and the crunching sound was interesting Grin. No problems after the extraction either

I'm having a molar out next week and I'm not overly bothered, more stressed about the hygienist app I've got this morning!!

dc43 · 26/06/2017 08:13

iPod is a great idea - just takes you away from the moment. Maybe I'll consider that for labour Hmm. Good luck - you'll be fine.

IrritatedUser1960 · 26/06/2017 08:16

You'll be fine. I've had an implant with a sinus lift as I didn't have any bone in that part of my jaw and felt nothing.
It didn't hurt afterwards either, I didn't need the painkillers I was given.

Pappawasarollingbone · 26/06/2017 08:20

Thabks so much for the replies you are lovely. Dc43 good luck with the baby... Xxx
I'm trying to remain calm and sane. I've gone full on drama queen about the entire thing but I think getting rid of the awful tooth might be a relief.
Does it help that it's a front tooth? Easier access and can I out the false tooth plate in straight away? Or just not speak to anyone for a week.

I have had teeth out and the false teeth made in preparation for extraction so that the false tooth can go in right away. I have one false tooth on a small plate at the front top and it is very comfortable and I don't notice it is there.

dc43 · 26/06/2017 08:36

Front teeth are a lot easier - access and single root. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes and the plate should go in straight away. Grin

Pappawasarollingbone · 26/06/2017 08:53

Thanks so much everyone has made me feel do much better. For the implant I'm going to go for a fully drugged up option.
Luckily my kids arent anywhere near as scared of the dentist as I am.

Ok so I did it and it was okay. You are all very wise and made me feel a lot better. The plate false teeth thing isn't a great fit so I need another one apparently. The dentist said this one means I'm dependent on the glue stuff about 3 times a day.

So glad it went ok. How does it feel today?

Pappawasarollingbone · 27/06/2017 19:55

It's fine really. Although the denture is hilarious I sound mad and I can't really eat with it in. But it's the first step so got to be done. Thanks for asking. X

@IrritatedUser1960. Sorry I know this post is from a while ago. I would like to get implants but I will need sinus lift and bone graft first. I am a bit unsure as when I have my upper teeth removed I had to have surgery due to the sinus being exposed. Just looking for some who has had this done and what your experience was please x
