A question for a pharmacist

If a prescription has been ordered but not collected are those drugs wasted or can they be reissued?

I put in my repeat prescription when I had a weeks worth of tablets left (as usual). I've not been to collect them yet but I've now had a letter from the hospital saying that they want me to move to a different medicine.

Should I explain that to the pharmacist? Will they be able to be used (I know they can't be if I've had them and taken them away).

I ask because I'm nervous about swapping meds and ideally I'd prefer to wait till the weekend. So that would mean taking two days worth from the new packet. But if I'm generating less waste by swapping sooner then I guess that's better.

Once issued and labelled they cannot be reused. Use the part packet with no fear of additional waste.

As long as the drugs haven't left the pharmacy they can be reused. If they have left the pharmacy and are later returned they need to be disposed of.
