Tight achilles on waking

After a period of sitting, or upon waking, both achilles feel sore. I hobble for a few steps before it loosens up. I'm sure it's to do with all the exercise I do, not warming up enough. But is there anything I can do to get rid of the soreness? I've been stretching

Sounds like the first stages of achilles tendonosis. I had this for months, ignored and then eventually overdid things and ended up hobbling about with a really sore achilles for a couple of months. If you google, there are specific exercises for achilles tendonosis. Or see a physio or GP if you are concerned or it isn't getting better.

Hi. I am exactly the same - mine is bilateral too, although one is worse than the other and has a lump on it. I initially just thought I was getting old (!) and it only bothered me for a minute on first getting out of bed, so I tried to ignore it, and now it has got worse and I'm waiting to see a specialist. It probably started about 6 months ago.

I am doing some of the eccentric exercises, but not as many as recommended as they seem to make it sore, and I'm not sure whether I should be doing them if it's in both achilles? So far though, no improvement and I'm beginning to lose hope!

User - how long did it take for yours to heal? Any other advice or success stories welcome!

After months of ignoring the stiffness, it suddenly got really bad a couple of days after a longish, strenous walk which I'm assuming is what was the nail in the coffin. I was really struggling to walk for a few days. I cut down long walks but made sure I was still moving about. I'm nearly 50 and honestly thought that that was it, it was something I would never get over at my age, but I did the exercises and, it was a slow process but in about 2 to 3 months, I was nearly back to normal. I don't even get the stiffness anymore and, if I do, I'm now aware of the warning signs so would get back to exercising.

I developed achilles tendonosis when I was training lot (Taekwondo) It was soooo painful. Worst in the mornings and I realised that because I slept face down (always have) my achiiles were in the 'shortened' position all night which made stepping out of bed agony.

I ended up wearing strapping for a few months, doing exercises and eventually it eased off; now it is just sore first thing . It takes a while to disappear tho!

I've suffered this most of my life. But since having long hot baths most evenings (a foot bath will suffice) it's almost disappeared.
