Periods getting shorter and symptomless

I am 31. Over the past few years my periods have become shorter and shorter and symptoms decreasing to the extent where my most recent one a day and a bit and not a single cramp. I used to have what I would call normal periods lasting 5-7 days, quite heavy and with the usual sore breasts, heavy cramping, moodiness, tiredness. I had my youngest child 8 years ago and since then they have gradually changed to the current situation. My cycles are still between 28 and 31 days.

Is this something to worry about? Could I be starting early menopause? My mum went through menopause in her late 40's.

That should say my most recent one lasted a day and a bit.

I have no idea if it's anything but I would definitely be mentioning it to the dr, it's quite a significant change.

Hope all is well OP Smile

Hi. Unless you've recently changed to a different hormonal type of contraception, (which may otherwise explain it), I'd discuss with your doctor.

BandeauSally · 23/06/2017 10:31

Thank you both. I haven't been taking any hormonal contraception in the 8 years since my son was born. (I've been single since then). I will make an appointment with the GP.

Same exactly, happened to me. Menopause by 43. As in, done and dusted. 2 years without periods by that point. I did have a baby at 36 though

Thanks dantdm were you around my age when it started? I'm single and have been for a long time but I would really love to meet someone and possibly have another child.

Had a child at 37 very easily, and normal periods I would say until 40. So older than you. By 43 it was game over Hmm

BandeauSally · 23/06/2017 18:24

OK thank you.

My game is over I think. Getting shorter and shorter. AF arrived today at 23 days. I was 28/29 then 27/28 then.....you get the picture. Getting closer over the last 12 months.

I'm 45 and not TTC anyway but still feels weird.

HeyJupiter · 24/06/2017 10:14

Hi OP, I'm 32 and the same thing happened to me about 4 years ago. Hasn't effected my fertility though as currently 19wks pregnant. Might be worth a chat with the GP for a bit of reassurance though. Good luck!

I wondered about a similar thing, although I'm a bit older than you. My periods have always been irregular but when they came they were long, heavy and painful. The last few months they have become very regular and last one or two days max with few cramps and not much PMT. My mum had an early menopause so I wondered if I was destined for the same, my sister and I both have PCOS too.

ragged · 24/06/2017 16:17

I have got lighter & shorter as I age, too. Doesn't mean anything but aging. I had cramps starting age 22, that turned terrible age 24. Thank fig that ended after I had kids.

PollytheDolly · 25/06/2017 22:47

To add after I said my AF arrived I was sitting at 25/26 cycle for months, lasted 4 days and 2 days heavy. This one 23 day cycle and just a very light brown discharge when I wiped? (Sorry tmi) and just 2 days. Not complaining but seems a big change from one month to the next.
