has anyone got any advice on dealing with thrush, i seem to suffer with it when pil are being difficult or i get worked up anticipating their response to certain things.

i visited the docs a while ago as i'd had it 3/4 times in about 6 months & he suggested talking about problems to other mums & taking regular exercise i also had a prescription of canneston type tablet.

it really gets me down when i do come down with it as i feel angry with myself for letting them get on top of me and of course the symtoms it causes and not being able to make love with my husband.

No advice at all I'm afraid, but I'll be watching this thread with interest as I've just had thrush for the second time in six weeks, having never had it before. I feel for you, it's horrible isn't it, and so painful.

just a thought, but do make sure your husband isn't carrying it and giving it back to you.

Otherwise all the usual things like cotton underwear washed on a hot wash with non bio stuff and no fabric softener. Don't wear tights or tight trousers.

If you are on the pill, that can increase the chances of getting thrush.

Don't use soap or bubblebath. You can buy pH neutral stuff to wash with.

Boots do some lactic acid wipes that are good instead of loo paper, plus always wiping from front to back etc. sorry if you have heard all this - I am just rattling it all off.

also, you can try any of the "good bacteria" drinks.

I hope some of this helps. In the end it is the stress that is the biggest problem - stress weakens the immune system and then you succumb to infections. It is hard to reduce the stress though.

Massage is great for stress and boosting the immune system, but is expensive.

I hope you find something that works and feel better soon.

You can buy an oral treatment - one tablet that you can both take if re-infection is the problem.

I also get thrush when I'm stressed, but I've worked out that its not because of the stress itself its because my diet changes when I'm under pressure.
I tend to comfort eat when I'm feeling stressed and this normally means more sugary stuff, and this I believe changes the acidity/environment on your skin and makes the bacteria more likely to get out of control which gives the problem.

If I try to steer clear of the dairy milk then I'm ok!

I use a tea tree wash specially for the fanjo and a tea tree cream if I feel a bit thrushy - has worked really well

friendlyedjit · 21/03/2007 15:56

thrush is horrid.
silly question and probably has been done already, but has GP taken swab to confirm thrush and not BV etc.
I've read that taking an oral antifungal once weekly ( fluconazole 100) for 3 month can reset immune system response that thought may be involved in recurrent thrush. this could be worth a try rather than the hell of thrush, but keeping on with all the other suggestions also posted re undies and soap bubblebath etc

Enid, what's the brand name of your tea tree wash? Is it easy to come by?

hoolagirl · 21/03/2007 19:59

I think your diet also plays a large part in this especially if your prone.
I recommend you take a good multivitiman like multibionta which has probiotics in it and cut down on refined sugars, chocolate, white bread etc.

Enid · 21/03/2007 20:08

fanjo wash

chipmonkey · 21/03/2007 21:17

I found by accident that if I had an actimel every day, I didn't get thrush. When I stopped, back it came with a vengeance!

bran · 22/03/2007 09:04

Thanks Enid

hoolagirl · 22/03/2007 09:11

Chipmonkey, i meant to mention the probiotic drinks as well, forgot as multibionta is my choice of thrush basher

greenfinch · 22/03/2007 10:14
