Wasn't sure what topic to post under

Am BLW DD and she just had aubergine for the first time, I didn't peel it and gave it to her in wedges (fried in a litle butter) she devoured it but now around her mouth, chin etc it red, not badly, but enough to notice.
Please tell me I don't need to panic and it's just where she was sucking the life out of it and rubbing it around her mush...feeling worried here.

Gibbon - my DD has v. dry skin on her hands and face all of sudden and she was chovelling bread yesterday - so I am wondering pretty much the same thing. No other ill effects so far though..

phew - thanks lulu saw that, thanks exbury, DD does seem fine. Just wondered is aubergine was known to have that effect.

Could perhaps be a sensitivity to nightshades. (Nightshade being the family that includes potatoes, peppers, aubergines, tomatoes). A colleague of mine has described a similar thing with her ds and thinks that's what it is, as both times he's had it he's reacted the same way. She also described the same as you say about her ds devouring it all up and said he was really happy eating it. Apparently that is part of the sensitivity to the chemical - it gives them a kind of "high" so they want to go on eating the stuff even though it's giving them the rash. No ill effects after he stopped eating it though. Like your dd, he was fine and the redness subsided. I don't know much about this but maybe you could try googling to see if this may be it?

There's a thread going on in allergies about sensivity to tomatoes which might be of interest.

I think you'll probably get a better idea next time she has it (as to whether it's a problem)

it's so hard to tell isn't it (with weaning) whether it's a 'proper' problem or just a bit of excessive rubbing/gnawing!

Just keep a closer eye than normal on her for foods in that group and see what happens. Hope she's ok.

I thought the same fox, see what happens next time (and hope, as you said, it was just her enthusiastic gnawing!) Thanks for the post, redness has now all gone.
