Mole that has changed is a week too long to wait to see Dr?

It's in a place that you wouldn't see it day to day (butt cheek, near the crack Blush ) but last night whilst putting on body cream I noticed it felt larger. Looked this morning and looks a different colour (paler in the middle and reddish on the outside) It feels bigger too.

Have booked a GP appointment but earliest I can get is next Tuesday so a week to wait. Is this soon enough? The GP i'm booked in with has a special interest in dermatology so would like to see her if possible just not sure if a week of worrying is bearable? Should I try and see someone sooner?

My FIL has just had a melanoma removed from the top of his head so a bit freaked out right now

Yes it's fine to wait.

I'm not medically trained but I worked in a Drs surgery for three years where we had two Drs who specialises in dermatology and an outside derm clinic once a week who removed pre cancerous miles and lesions all the time.

Thanks Wreck, had a bit of a panic when I noticed it especially with FIL's being a melanoma

The melanoma clinic is a two week wait clinic, which kind of demonstrates that within health care a mole that has changed and looks suspicious should be seen, biopsied if necessary and dealt with quickly. You don't know that this is a precancerous mole yet and so personally I think if it's making you anxious I would phone back to the GP and ask to be seen sooner if possible. If the GP thinks it needs seeing by dermatology then it gets the ball rolling a little quicker. I had a precancerous mole removed two years ago and personally found that when I phoned the GP initially and said why I wanted to be seen I got a same day appointment. Did you tell the receptionist that you had a mole that had changed?

No I booked the appointment using the online booking system. I will phone in the morning and see if I can get seen earlier.

Good for you for getting on with it and getting it checked though.

I was given an emergency appointment that day at GP for suspicious mole.

Thanks I will definitely try and go sooner than next week. Hopefully they'll have something available, I just thought at the time seeing the GP with the specialist interest in dermatology might be a good idea but am sure any GP will refer if needs be.
