Back pain injections

I'm due to get an injection into joints in my back soon. Ongoing problems for 10 years, had discectomy a few years ago but still in pain. Has anyone ever had an injection like this? They don't give a general anaesthetic and I seem to be immune to local ones in that they are never strong enough, something I obviously will mention to Dr. Thanks for any info, dreading it!

I've had a few - facet joint injections in my upper back, 1 in the SI joint and several epidurals. do you know what it is you are having?

Thanks for replying. Yes it's the facet joint injection into lower back. Dr mentioned we had to be sure which joints are causing the pain which makes me think he's going to press on them or have me doing movements which are agony, in order to find the right spot! Did any of your injections give you relief?

I've had injections into my sacriliatic joint, I asker for sedation after the first time as I was in tears with the pain (I'm really crap at pain though) - however at my last appointment the consultant said they don't like to do that anymore, could just be my local area that are wanting to stop that.

I had those. Bloody amazing! I was told it might give me a few months of relief but that was about three years ago now.
I didn't have to do any movements so he could find the right spot. They lay me on a bed and a c shaped scanner showed him where to go. Bit uncomfortable at the time but not awful.

I had an MRI first. Why haven't they done that to work out where the pain is coming from?!

I had relief from some of the injections I've had. I had the facet joint injections on health insurance privately and was given a sedative, it actually knocked me out completely.
The others were are at the NHS pain management clinic and I didn't have anything, although they did have gas and air in the room so I think it was an option. They used some sort of x-ray/scanner thing to locate where to inject.

Thanks everyone. Wolfie I did have an MRI but apparently they don't show the exact joints that are causing the pain? So he would need me to help with that That's what this specialist said.
