from experience
i saw optician on a sunday ,who wasn't happy and emailed hospital first thing monday morning ,i then had an emergency appointment on the wednesday. i've been diagnosed with optic neuritis.
i had a repeat field vision test yesterday and the tester said it was still abnormal ,they have no idea if its going to come back ,(follow up appointment with the consultant next week)
my front vision has now been left blurry with close up things but at least the pain has gone.

Mommasoph · 22/06/2017 22:53

No way ! I have had no letter or nothing . What pain did you get ? I only have headaches x

wfrances · 23/06/2017 16:57

i had a pain deep behind my eyes - a pressure type pain
and a sharp pain in my eyes every time my eyes moved direction.
no headaches .
everything looked blurry and the more i tried to focus it would get worse, (thats getting better ,blurriness only starts if im reading for 10 mins now )
my peripheral vision started to grey out and i still have blind spots (this doesnt seem to be getting better)
hope you hear something soon.

Good luck op, I need to take my son back to the opticians on Friday as he has astigmatism and needs a eye test involving painful drops! I'm really worried for him as he'll literally shout the roof off with the drops!!!!

Katescurios · 10/07/2017 17:23

I've had lots of referrals as have a variety of eye issues. In my experience if they have concerns about a possible tumour or full loss of sight situation you are in hospital within days. For most other things it can take up to the full 18 weeks referral time limit to actually see a DR.

Bustergonad - the drops are to dilate the pupils and add a little dye so they can better pick up anomalies. They sting for about 10 seconds and make your eyes water. After a few minutes your son will notice that things look a little unclear and that bright light feel more uncomfortable. It takes a couple of hours for the drops to fully wear off so sunglasses are helpful. The drops are not comfortable but the stinging is really short lived.

BusterGonad · 10/07/2017 19:36

Thank you Kate I know is not as worrying as the other posters possible problems but he's a bugger for going crazy if something hurts!

Mommasoph · 10/07/2017 22:08

I'll

Hello,
Can anyone help? My daughter went for an eye test and was refereed to the hospital and was told she needs a non urgent brain scan?
Is this normal? Can it be bad news if we get an appointment 4 days later?

Thank You

john

Hi John, you'd be best to start your own thread, this one is quite old. Hope you get the help you need
