11 month old sick all the time. Seven change of clothes today!

My little lad is sick all the time. After every meal I follow him around with tissues, wipes and changes of clothes. I fed him at 4:00pm this afternoon and I have cleared up six small pools of vomit since. He has had seven changes of clothes today. Today is sadly typical.
He used to wear bibs but I have given up with them. He always tries to pull them off and anyway the sick never lands on them. He leans forward crawling around and 'pleeurghhhh, squelch...' sick all over the floors. Thank goodness we have wooden floors.

I constantly smell of sick and my little lad is sitting three feet away from me now covered head to foot in it. I am about to change him again. He never ever did this before he was weaned. Do all babies do this? I am so sick of clearing up small pools of vomit. Suggestions?

have you taken him to the doctors?

You poor thing, it sounds like a nightmare. And poor little him. maybe he has some kind of reflux or food allergy? What are you feeding him?

Spoke to HV about it and she said not to worry as it wasn't too severe i.e. he is not VERY sick each time.

I mentioned milk allergy to her and she said that it was unlikely as he would be more sick each time. My view is that ok, he is not sick loads each time, but having just put him to bed at 7:00pm (it is three hours since he ate) - he has been sick a smallish amount 16 times!!. That adds up to a lot of sick in my book. My washing basket is full and I emptied it this morning.

Anyone tell me whether small amounts (pools roughly the size of half a fivepound note) of sick like this, constantly, could be a milk allergy??

EvanMom - has he always been sick since he was tiny? Was he/is he bf?

My ds2 started being sick around 6.5 months, and it became worse and more frequent. After 3 months a GP - who is allowed to be a bit sharper than me - commented that the onset of the sickness coincided with the introduction of dairy (fromage frais, yoghurts, cheese, and milk in cooking) to his diet ... Whoops! On her advice, we cut out dairy completely (yucky soya formula) and the sickness disappeared overnight.

Sickness started after he was weaned onto solids at 5 months. I have always thought it an allergy but HVs assured me not.

I breastfed him until 9 months and then weaned to forumla. He gave up drinking formula after 2 weeks. He doesn't seem to like milk. Worried about calcium, HV told me to give him lots of cheese and yoghurts. He now has one yoghurt (not fussed) a day, quite a bit of cheese and about 6-8oz (in total) of cow's milk (doesn't like it) but he is starting to drink a bit more now. Won't touch formula.

don't know what it is but go to the doctor - my dd has reflux and after getting the medicine it cleared up overnight. another mum I know went for 10 months before going to the doctor (and had a really hard time for the majority of that 10 months) and her ds also has reflux.

massively sympathise though - i remember the washing - I had to change dd's sheets every day for eight weeks, plus several changes of her clothes (not to mention mine), so I do feel for you.

I've switched today and bought him dairy-free foods. He has just drunk some soya milk and had a dairy-free lunch.
He has been sick twice since.
How long after removing cow's milk from the diet should I expect to see an improvement in the vomitting (if indeed that is what his problem is - vomitting due to intolerance to cow's milk)???? Presumably straight away???

EvanMom I really would go and see your doc before making any dramatic changes.

EvanMom · 12/07/2004 00:19

Thanks for the advice. The only reason that I have not gone to the doctor's is that my other son had a vomitting problem. His was much worse though. He would projectile vomit loads. He grew out of it. I made no changes to his diet.

I suppose I am more worried about ds2 as he is smaller, seems less robust and is on the 25th percentile for weight. His brother, on the other hand, although vomitting for much of his first year has always been between the 75th and 98th percentile!

I bought Alpro Soya today for ds2. Seems silly to start him on Formula soya at almost 11 months. Can anyone give me a good reason for not trying ordinary (non-formula) soya milk in an 11 month old????? And I have battled to get ds2 to drink ANY milk since I stopped b/f . He seemed to genuinely like the Alpro today - on the downside it contains sugar and salt,on the upside it seems to contain more (added) calcium than cow's milk.

I will see how it goes for a couple of days and then speak to HV about it.

He's had no dairy today and still vomitted small amoutns 6 or 7 times (a lot less than yesterday)
