Gallbladder out while pregnant!

I'm currently in hospital with pancreatitis and cholestasis, 23 weeks pregnant, feeling quite sorry for myself!

I had a problem with the gallbladder a few weeks ago and it was agreed they would remove it after the baby was delivered (via c section at 38 weeks)

Now the pancreatitis has happened they aren't prepared to wait to do the gallbladder removal so after some further scans and tests tomorrow will be arranging to do the op, they've said it needs to be done within the next 2 weeks. Obstetricians came down today and scared me a bit.

Has anyone had this op while pregnant and could you tell me the outcome please!

Sorry I'm an annoying no experience person but all the best at this rough time. Hope to hear an update. Flowers

I'm booked in to have it out on Friday Confused very scared but they're sure it's the safest thing! Thank you for asking Smile

My friend had this op under very similar circumstances to yours.
She was fine. Baby was fine.
Good luck.

That's really reassuring thank you 😊

Still thinking of you.

I'm a surgeon and want to reassure you. I' ve done this op on a lady in exactly your situation, I think she was 24 weeks or so. It was very straightforward and the baby was fine. The risks of general anaesthetic in the 2nd trimester are very low and the operation is at least in the top half!
You can't risk another attack of pancreatitis, they are right. It will be over soon!

Thank you, the surgeon decided not to go ahead with the op on Friday in favour of waiting another couple of weeks so the baby is bigger and stronger when they do it.

They think the likelihood of her needing to be delivered is a bit higher than they would like so they want her to be as many weeks further ahead as they can get us.

Thank you for the thoughts and the reassurance it has really helped Smile

Best wishes with this. Be prepared for their plans to keep changing day to day. If they feel your pancreatitis is getting worse they might make a snap decision to go ahead, if things improve they will perhaps leave it longer. It will be about trading off different risks to you and your baby. Sending you lots of patience!
