Referral to dermatology for moles - can I ask about another?

So I've developed some harmless looking white moles on my face (quite a few, probably over the last few months but lost track of when they first appeared). They do itch occasionally (and look quite ugly...). Anyway, the GP didn't think they looked dodgy at all and was going to refer me for a routine (non urgent) dermatology appointment. Then she changed her mind and did an urgent referral, just to be sure.

I'm not too worried about these, as it turns out. My health anxiety has crept in and I've now started worrying about a couple of other moles I've had at the back of my mind for the last couple of years. One is on my arm. The GP took a look and said mention that when you go. But the one I am really worried about is on my breast and grew there when I was pregnant 4 years ago. It has never really changed but is not symmetrical and occasionally itches a bit.

My question is, can I ask them to look at these too? I'm suddenly really worried but think they won't look at others if I'm referred for face only.
What does anyone think? Any reassuring stories? Will they take a look?

Thanks for thoughts.

I was referred for one that kept itching after I had a baby. They said it looked fine but they would take it off and check it anyway (it was fine). This was done at a later appointment.

While I was there I asked them to check a couple of other moles which they happily did and said looked fine. They also photographed all the moles I asked them to check so, if I had concerns in the future, they had something to compare them to. All very reassuring!

Hope this helps OP - please don't worry.

I was referred about mole a. I asked about mole b and mole b was removed a few weeks later. I still have mole a.

Thatextrainch · 09/06/2017 19:20

So yes, you can

Hulder · 09/06/2017 19:24

They should look at all your skin and all your moles.

It's not unheard of for someone to be referred for one mole and that one be fine but a dodgy one to be lurking undiscovered somewhere else.

So at a proper derm appointment to look at moles, be prepared to be in your knickers.

Thank you!

I'm going to try not to worry until Tuesday, and ask about the others when I go...

Yes of course you can. My consultant checked all of mine (everywhere Grin) even though I was only referred for one on the back of my neck. Just mention any your're concerned about.

Kathrino · 09/06/2017 19:47

Last time I went, the consultant asked me not to tell her which ones I'd been referred for as she wanted to make her own decision and she checked them all. I hope it all goes well :)

You had some really positive experiences, Pirates and Kathrino. That's brilliant. I hope they are as nice when I go for mine!

Yes, when I went about one I thought was dodgy, the dermatologist checked me all over a chose to remove a second mole too, one I has never taken any notice of. Neither were malignant.

I've been twice and both times they have asked if there are any more I'm worried about.
Both times the Dr has diagnosed "molus extremus normalus" Grin He wrote that on the discharge letter last time.
