She is just 15mths and has had a bad cold and cough for 4 days. She has not eaten for the past 2 days and has had tiny amounts of milk or water both of which I have left in a cup for her to drink as she wants. Today she has eaten nothing at all and has drank 3ozs of milk. She has had terrible diaorrhia[sp]and I know she is getting her molars at the same time. We have all been ill with the same bug but it has hit her the hardest and I already worry about her breathing etc. She has been pretty out of it just lying on the couch or wanting to be cuddled and dozed most of the time for past 2 days.

Don't worry at all, but try to keep up the regular sips of water. My ds didn't eat for nearly two weeks just after his first birthday.

If you have food routines, e.g. has to eat at the table, throw them all out the window for a while. Try an indoor picnic with a blanket in front of the tv. Leave little bowls of tempting snacks in the room. Don't nag her to eat them. Eat from them yourself occasionally. Hopefully it will tempt her soon.

She will eat when she's hungry - she won't starve herself.

My ds was 13 months when he didn't eat for 10 days over Xmas. The doctor was not worried in the slightest and as long as they are taking fluids, its OK. Hope everythings better soon.

Hope your daughter is better today. I agree with the other postings - fluids is the only thing to worry about. Sometimes using a straw or the kind of drinking cup she can suck on may be easier and more comforting to drink with. Although it isn't a drink I ever normally offer my kids flat coca cola is a more appealing version of rehydration drink, and is amazingly soothing when you have sickness and diahrroea. (If you don't fancy giving it to your child, try it yourself next time you are a sufferer). To speed up the flattening process you can add a bit of extra sugar. A last word - you probably won't even remember all this a year from now!
