Hello everyone

I am in desperate help of some answers. I have been on the mini pill for over 20 years and never had any problems with it or my menstrual cycle, until now.

I have missed 3 months of periods and thought this was rather strange. In march this year, I had more cramping in my abdominal area for a good fews days than normal and didnt actually have my period which I thought was strange. In April the pain was the same and in May I had a bit of spotting and the pain was intense again for about 2 - 4 days. This month I have had lower pain for about 2 weeks now and no period symptoms at all normally I have sore breasts, bloated etc, but no nothing.

Last month I had a ultra sound and they say a functional cyst on my right ovary which was only 32mm and quite small and they said it should disappear.

my worry is just hearing the word cyst, but also my lower pain which is pretty much everyday now for 2 weeks. I have no other symptoms apart from lower back pain and sometimes pain on the upper thigh too.

Doctors are thinking IBS, cystitis but its not, even though I had a UTI back in March and its now clear.

I am going to demand an MRI scan and see the Gyno as well...Im really worried. I am 42, no children and feel it may get worse even though doctors seem to assume it wont and its not causing the pain? really?

I could scream...I wont though for now!! lol

thank you v much
x

Yes, before I had ds I had then when I was 21 and again at 23. Both times, intense pinching pain and I had laparoscopies to get rid of them. They were very dismissive ime and only when I made a huge fuss about it affecting my sex life they operated. At each appt they asked if I had a partner and when I said I was single they didn't seem that bothered. It was only when I said it was too painful to have sex that they treated them. I've had a couple since but they've gone on their own and none since having ds which apparently is quite common.

thank you hun for sharing, did you have an MRI scan or see a Gyno to get more info, as I have had an ultra sound just want to see if its got bigger and it is affecting my sex life.....so good point there!!

Yes,it really was as soon as I said that they spring into action so definitely worth mentioning.

This was 25 years ago so Mari's weren't offered back then. I had scans- external and internal then laparoscopies.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/06/2017 10:30

And yes,I was referred to a gynaecologist.

Creativeandpetite2016 · 06/06/2017 10:36

thank you I am on the case as I have an appointment today and it just gets to the stage where you want answers and no more guessing what is it or what if!
My bloods came back clear of cancer as this was a worry and smear was clear too which was good news.

Thank you again, feel I definitely need to be more persistent on tests.

Me too, didnt really investigate that much until I said we were trying for a family then I had every blood test under the sun with internal scans!! No MRI but had a lovely gyneacologist (which I really had to push for with gp who had me down as having IBS, constipation etc etc!I knew it wasnt myself). Keep a diary of pain and symptoms, periods, my gynea asked me to do this for 3 months so any patterns could be established and I still do it now as its really useful.
But try not to worry too much, and go back to doctors as planned xxx

Creativeandpetite2016 · 06/06/2017 10:43

Thank you SIB09 bless you thats exactly what they are saying its IBS and constipation you know when its not, I mean I get constipated but not when it a pain radiating up your back, down your thighs and across your pelvic too....thank you I will see what he can do today, fingers crossed, its such a worry for females!

xxx

I'm not sure that they use MRI scans for ovarian cysts. I have had two, one of which ruptured and needed surgery and the other which resolved on its own and didn't have an MRI for either.

Sometimes they do resolve on their own and so you can trust the doctor on that unless it feels like it's getting worse

Redhead17 · 06/06/2017 10:47

I had one, had awful pains, bleeding etc told me to come back and be rescanned and it had gone. They do go on their own sometimes

WiltingTulip · 06/06/2017 10:51

I have one (assume it's still there). I get the odd discomfort. I have (unrelated) cancer so Drs are all over my test results and no one seems bothered by it so I'm doing nothing.

MajesticWhine · 06/06/2017 10:51

I had one. They can sometimes be caused by hormonal contraception. I had my Mirena coil taken out and the cyst went away of its own accord.

thethoughtfox · 06/06/2017 11:26

My friend had one that grew really quickly while pregnant (apparently this is quite common that they grow really quickly with pregnancy hormones; ) She collapsed with horrific pain, was rushed to hospital where they found it had twisted and was about to rupture. She had to have emergency surgery while pregnant which was scary but she's fine now.

loopyloppy · 06/06/2017 11:40

I had one last year. I knew it for a couple of months as there was on and off pain and then it burst.

Bloody painful and had a vagina ultrasound which confirmed it had burst.

ForeverHopeful21 · 06/06/2017 11:40

You don't have an MRI for a cyst. They will do an ultrasound or an internal scan using a probe. They may choose to do a keyhole type procedure (can't remember the medical term) to take a look at the cyst. The reason why they tell you wait rather than just removing it is because most cysts disappear on their own over time ...especially small ones like yours. I know it's frustrating when it's causing you pain.

I have an 11cm ovarian cyst (very big!) and I'm having surgery to remove it and my ovary will probably be removed too. It's taken me a while just to get to this point as everything takes so long in terms of gynae referrals, scans, then more scans to check its growth etc.

Creativeandpetite2016 · 06/06/2017 16:35

thank you everyone, my doc has referred me to the gyno and hoping to see a hormonal specialist too, its driving me mad these pains as I cant seem to relax!!
