incubation / infectious period of respiriatory viruses

Dd2 has an horrendous repsiriatory virus with a v high temp (39.7), sore throat and croupy cough. I'm worried about ds (9mo) getting it as he is prone to chest problems. Is it possible to guess how long the incubation period is for this type of virus? And when will dd2 stop being infectious? I don't want to let my guard down with ds too soon.

Also, I seem to be immune, given the number of times dd2 has sneezed in my face - the doc suggested that ds might still have some passive immunity from me even though I was unable to bfeed him beyond the first week - is that right?

Tia!

up to 8 days for RSV, which dd2 caught off dd1 aged 4 weeks. It was almost impossible to protect one from the other though, not sure how !

And yes, you could have passed some immunity on during that first week from what I understand...good luck, hope ds doesn't catch it and dd gets better soon xx

Thank you - your poor dd2, hope she got over it okay. It is impossible to keep them apart, ds got neonatal CP from his big sister. Fortunately dd2 isn't as keen on him as dd1 so tends to steer clear!
