Anyone done tooth whitening?

(Sorry, couldn't find the 'vanity' topic heading!!)

Have had moulds of my teeth made at the dentist to wear overnight for a week or so for tooth whitening. Tried it last night and it was AWFUL. Apart from being quite uncomfortable, after about 20 mins I was getting sharp pain in one area of my mouth, and I was dribbling like crazy! Was semi-conscious until about 4am when I could bear it no more and whipped them out. AND I paid £230 for this.

Anyone who has tried this, is it worth continuing? Obviously there's no noticable difference in colour yet, and the results are meant to be variable.

I found that it made my teeth too sensitive, to the point where breathing in air caused me pain, My dentist refunded the bleach I returned. Maybe its worth while persevering, i have since stopped smoking and have noticed a benefit to the colour of my teeth.

Don't do it. My dh did this - he persisted for about 3 weeks - it damaged his gums, caused him intense pain and has left me feeling really worried about how good it was in the long-term for him to have peroxide seeping out onto his skin (it doesn't seem to only cover the teeth.) Our dentist said it was fine, but I didn't think it was worth the health risk or pain and neither did dh.

Thanks for replying. My dentist is insistent that it won't do any harm (used to be a treatment for gum disease apparently) so I am going to give it another go tonight. Think I will use less peroxide though as I don't want it to 'spill out' of the gumshield. I haven't been able to eat anything today because my mouth feels sore (although that's not necessarily a bad thing), but I can actually see a difference to the teeth after just one go. The things we do for vanity!

I've had this, still do it once a week as a top up. Teeth were really sensitive, I just do it on the front teeth now.
Your meant to wipe away any excess that comes out the gum shield (obv not when your sleeping though).
Dentist also gave me a tube of sensodyne to put in gum shields for some relief from the sensitivity.
