Help me learn how to like drinking water

At the moment I really, really don't like to drink water but will have quite diluted high juice instead. I'm keen to try and change this habbit to set a better example to my DCs.

Has anyone got any tips on how to do this.

Fizzy? If not, just make sure it's cold, with ice in and I like sliced lemon too

doozeldog · 03/06/2017 21:26

Hi, I am rubbish at drinking water but I went to Aldi a month or so ago, I bought a nice big drinking bottle and put a tiny bit of cordial in it and I'm not drinking 2/3 bottles a day! I can't tell u how much better I feel! Other family members are doing the same and now it worked for then too!

MrsELM21 · 03/06/2017 21:27

But yourself a really nice bottle to drink it out of, TK Maxx have some lovely glass ones, it really helps!

WhimsicalWinnifred · 03/06/2017 21:28

Make sure it's carbonated. Mix it with wine.

Anditstartsagain · 03/06/2017 21:29

I have a fliter jug kept in the fridge much nicer than normal tap water.

ChishandFips33 · 03/06/2017 21:30

I could have written this

I bought a bottle from TKMaxx and I log my drinks on my Fitbit app against a target

I sometimes squirt some fresh lemon juice in and I drink iced water better

Barefoot789 · 03/06/2017 21:32

Chop up fruit you like to favour it in a big jug and put it in the fridge. I like cucumber or strawberry and mint. And ice helps.

I used to hate water, and would only drink it if I was absolutely desperate. I have tried to make some lifestyle changes recently, and one of those is to drink water instead of fizzy/juice drinks.

I have a Brita water filter and filter water every night before I go to bed. I then cut up lemon slices and mint and put these in a separate fridge jug and pour the water into this and refrigerate. In the morning, I have delicious water to drink.

Sometimes I just use lemons, or lemon and an orange, or watermelon and strawberries.

Google 'Sassy water recipes' for some excellent recipes for water. The added benefit of these infused waters, is that they also assist with cleansing the liver, bowel and intestines, and also with weight loss (apparently). I've been drinking these waters for 2 months now and I don't miss fizzy drinks.

3luckystars · 03/06/2017 21:33

I hate it. When I had a medical condition and had to drink 3ltrs a day because of medication.
I bought a sports bottle of water (1.5ltr) with the squirty top, and filled it up going to bed. I forced myself to drink it before getting up every morning. I did the same at night.
The squirty top made it easier to drink quicker.

I could never pretend to like it, I just hate it.

Rachie1986 · 03/06/2017 21:35

Those of you who do lemon slices, do you wash the lemon etc first cos of bad germs on the skin? That's always worried me but I think I'd drink more with lemon in x

FlouncingInTheRain · 03/06/2017 21:36

I've got to admit i've always liked water but I find a lot of people serve it as a tepid from tap drink in a wet glass grabed from the drainer.

I compare that to drinking a can of drink thats got warm in the boot of the car when you really fancy an ice cold drink.

We have ikea 1ltr glass flip top bottles that I fill and keep in the fridge. They go on the table at dinner with a stack of sparkling clean glasses.

Its helped me drink more water when I'd got out the habit. There's something nice about pouring a nice cold drink out of a lovely bottle, rather than just turning on the tap and waiting for it to run cold.

For me the nice clean glass is important, particularly as water is clear its very unforgiving on a smudgy glass. If you're a wine drinker have you ever had a nice wine from a mug - its just not the same.

CowParsleyNettle · 03/06/2017 21:36

Either a squeeze of lime or chopped cucumber and mint (use a straw).

CowParsleyNettle · 03/06/2017 21:38

(I hate cold drinks and I can't stand fizzy, it feels like it burns my mouth! I'm a modern day freak.)

CaulkheadUpNorf · 03/06/2017 21:40

I drink a lot of sparkling water. If that isn't an option, how about gradually diluting the amount of high juice you're putting in it?

CaulkheadUpNorf · 03/06/2017 21:41

Oh and don't drink it from a plastic cup. A bottle is much easier than a glass too.

3luckystars · 03/06/2017 21:45

I absolutely hate cold drinks too.

I can drink hot water though but not much, just a mug or two.

ILoveMyMonkey · 03/06/2017 21:46

Use a straw - weird but I manage to drink lots more when using a straw. I also prefer it room temp rather the cold.

CiderwithBuda · 03/06/2017 22:06

Sparkling water is not very good for you so drinking still water is much better. A friend got hypnosis to help her. She absolutely couldn't drink water but after hypnosis she can.

3luckystars · 03/06/2017 22:53

Why isn't it good for you?

Blondielongie · 03/06/2017 22:54

Get summer fruits fruit and barley squash! Makes water amazing, just a drop!

IamMoana · 03/06/2017 22:55

They do fruit infuser bottles in Primark which are fab. Bung anything in it! Lemons, limes, cucumber, mint, strawberries, kiwi, apple - possibilities are endless! Give it a bit of taste. I drink 2 litres a day minimum & it really does help. Good luck!

imsorryiasked · 03/06/2017 23:00

I hate drinking water out of a plastic bottle out cup. But I don't mind it in a glass as long as it's slightly chilled.

HeddaGarbled · 03/06/2017 23:05

For me it needs to be very cold, so either bottle straight from fridge or ice cubes in tap water. But if you genuinely don't like it, it's OK to get your fluids from tea, for example.

MollyHuaCha · 03/06/2017 23:05

Slices of fresh lime make water delicious. Chilling two water in a glass container also helps. And pretty tumblers to drink from.

If you're not already a plain water fan, but want to be, I would suggest you aim low - maybe one glass a day to start with (you'll be having more fluid then this obviously because water will not be your only drink).

When you've mastered one glass a day and you love it, you can aim for two glasses. Good luck Smile

Yayne · 03/06/2017 23:06

I don't like water on its own unless it's really hot weather. So I put about a quarter apple juice in fizzy water and it's very refreshing and much nicer. Or one of the nice cordials Tesco do - elderflower etc,e but much more diluted than they say.
