Injured wrist - should I go to a&e??

Help, does this sound like I need to go to a&e? So last night I tripped up in the garden putting kids bikes away, fell forwards and my left wrist took all of my weight... I felt something 'give' a little bit, but no cracking sound or anything like that, and I can still move my fingers etc... It's quite painful now but not really very bruised, it can't be broken can it?!

If I went to a&e with this today what are they likely to do, surely they won't plaster it up if they are not 100% sure it's broken?

Thanks all!

It could be torn ligaments
Cartelidge
Or just 'sprain'...
Whatever it is it's best to have it checked out.... do you have a walkin centre you could drop in as those might be able to see you quicker rather than going to a and e?

Thanks - no we don't have a minor injuries place nearby... it seems to be a bit better now but its still painful and I think I'm getting a bruise at the bottom of my thumb - any ideas what this might be from?

It would be best to get it checked - there is a small bone at the base of the thumb (scaphoid) that often breaks, and it doesn't always show straight away on an x-Ray. If you leave it, it could cause problems later on.

I think I'd go to get it checked out. There's really no wY to say whether it's broken or not.

On my way to a&e now, hope it's not a scaphoid fracture :(

How's your wrist?

hannahgregory · 04/06/2017 11:44

Hi soupdragon, they suspect a scaphoid fracture but it wasn't clear on X Ray so have to go back in a couple of weeks for more tests

Oh dear... at least you're not completely on the dark though!
