Ds has a little patch of red, dry sore looking skin, about pea sized just under his lip. It keeps scabbing over and then becoming sore again and now i think there might be another patch starting a bit further up from the original one.

I have googled impetigo and tbh it doesn't really look like it is that as it is nowhere near as bad as any of the pics that came up, but it does mention that it can occur after a previous problem with the skin and ds has very recently had an allergic reaction to a virus which caused a very bad rash on his body and face.

My mum suggested getting some cream from the chemist, but am i right in thinking that if it is impetigo that it needs anti biotic cream ?

Impetigo on the face tends to have a lot more build up of crust than the one on the limbs and trunk. They are caused by tow different strains of the bug. It sounds like it could be. The best thing to do would be to go to the docs on monday and see what he says. Once secondary areashave appeared it usually needs ab's.

best to know for sure, as he'll need to stay away from others. think yellow scabs are a key symptom.good luck.

Our GPs kept giving ABs of increasing strength, creams et al. Went on for months.
Eventually we got to see a paediatric dermatologist, and apparently it has tendancy to live up the child's nose untouched by creams or oral ABs.
He gave us stuff to poke up his nose (not very far) and it cleared up very quickly.

Ahh ok, not sure if the scabs were yellow, tbh because of where it is it doesn't stay scabbed over for long as it gets wet and the scab comes off.

If it is Impetigo, how long does it generally take to clear up once it's being treated ?

BTW the scabs were red, but it was definitely impetigo.

It will clear very quickly, within the week. They should see you for impetigo straight away at the docs. Kick up a stink if they don't. good luck
