  1. Not at all .. she didn't choke and it was half an hour ago so she'll just poo it out

  2. Quite .. but not enough to go to A&E because they won't do anything about it, it won't show up on x-ray and she'll just poo it out?

  3. Frantic .. go to A&E?

No labels to say whether its toxic but it was 30 mins ago so assume there would have been some kind of reaction by now and she's fine

Hi, would go to A&E or at least ring GP help line. Good luck.

nickytwotimes · 16/03/2007 19:52

i'd ring the gp helpline thingmy.

Greensleeves · 16/03/2007 19:52

if they are a bona fide make then the liquid is non toxic..

how old is she

TeeCee · 16/03/2007 19:56

Oh God I must be a really crap mum cos I think I'd be a 1)! Okay, I'll go for between a 1 and a 2, that ok?
Basically have fun finding it and errr have a glass of wine, xxx

Twiglett · 16/03/2007 19:57

it was most probably a cheapy thing .. in a party bag

it was only about the size of a marble .. I have another one

I'm heading for 2 .. but with a flicker of panic

no after effects .. if it was toxic wouldn't there be some reaction by now?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 16/03/2007 20:01

NHS direct would do the 'swallowed a foreign body go to A&E' bit .. but A&E don't do anythign with coins apart from check that its gone down

handlemecarefully · 16/03/2007 20:03

I'm really rubbish going by this thread. I would be no 1.

My primary concern would have been choking risk - but since she has already swallowed it without event, I would wait for it to pass.

It doesn't have sharp edges and doesn't seem big enough to cause an obstruction in her intestines / bowel??

MaLady · 16/03/2007 20:03

I would def seek prof advice even if it means a&e sorry.

handlemecarefully · 16/03/2007 20:04

Most of us have swallowed chewing gum at some time or another haven't we? I would put it on a par with that

Have you tried googling for information?

handlemecarefully · 16/03/2007 20:07

here is something, I haven't read it properly but there is loads of info if you google swallow foreign objects

zippitippitoes · 16/03/2007 20:10

I'm sure it will be ok but there is a part of me which thinks elastic bands are not good swallowed are they and once punctured this could resemble an elastic band

but then i can't see any thing coming from going to a and e

so i think monitor her for any ill effects

there are a lot of these toys..i sell them but some of them are copies from less reliable sources, so if it was one of origin unknown I would be a bit cautious

BarefootDancer · 16/03/2007 20:11

If dc hasn't choked and it is small she will poo it out.
The only problem is toxicity. If it has a CE mark it will probably be non-toxic.
Look at the other one you have - if it is solid then I would think it will come out the other end. If it has liquid in it then maybe more serious. You need to check if it is toxic or not. Maybe the parent who packed the party bag has the wrapper still?

Twiglett · 16/03/2007 20:15

it came in a clear wrapper .. it feels like its solid .. should I cut in half to check?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 16/03/2007 20:15

no ce mark though

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 16/03/2007 20:17

the liquid should just be water

but it's chinese water not evian and the source may not be quality

I doubt it'll be enough to harm her

zippitippitoes · 16/03/2007 20:17

is it a sticky..like ypu throw at a window

BarefootDancer · 16/03/2007 20:18

Yes - cut in in half. If it is solid I would stop worrying and wait for it to re-appear. But that is just my personal opinion. If you are worried go to A&E.

handlemecarefully · 16/03/2007 20:18

No harm cutting it in half and examining it.

You could go to A&E but I'll wager that you will spend several frustrated unproductive hours there waiting...and waiting some more!

How about ringing A&E and asking to speak to the 'Nurse in charge' for advice? I've done this before.

mum2sam · 16/03/2007 20:21

i would just ring up A & E and ask to speak to someone put your mind at ease

Twiglett · 16/03/2007 20:22

no, its the type you squidge in your hand but it keeps going back to its original shape .. its just a small white ball with a black disc like a pupil IYSWIM

thought I'd give NHS direct a try but they're only taking emergency calls .. and can't get through to A&E .. unless anyone has the direct number for Kings College hospital
